Framing Terminology
- Decoupage
- Art work that has a three-dimensional depth. (French for 'cutting out').
- Delamination
- 1. With reference to mount boards- where the surface paper has lost adhesion with the core material. Often a result of less than ideal storage conditions. 2. With reference to dry/wet mounting - where the mounted art has become separated from the substrate board.
- Diffused
- See section on Glass.
- Double Mount
- One mount (mat) laid on top of another.
- D Ring
- Commonly used fastener, usually fixed to the back of the frame rim, to which the hanging cord or hanging wire is attached. Sometimes fixed to the stretchers on a canvas painting instead of the frame.
- Dry Mount
- Hot press technique of attaching art work onto a backing material by means of heat soluble film placed between them.
- Duraing Duraing
- The faux-guitar noise made between lines when singing "The Framers' Blues"
- Dust Seal
- The seal applied to the back of a frame. In theory to keep dust, bugs, and other contaminants out. Usually tape.
