Framing Terminology
- Patinating Wax
- Available in many colours, most commonly black or verdigis (green) often applied to ornate gilt mouldings with brush and cloth, and burnished or polished to give an aged (patinated) effect.
- Pixie Dust
- Tiny shards of debris that waft into the air while cutting aluminum mouldings but remain uncaptured by vacuum exhaust systems. These particles often find their way onto suede mounts, into beverage containers, or settle onto the circuit boards of electronic devices such as computers.
- Point
- (framers point) a flat piece of metal, available in various shapes (eg long and thin with a point, diamond, triangle) usually inserted into the rebate (rabbet)with a spring loaded or pneumatic tool known as a point gun. Holds the picture backing in. Similar points are used in the glazing industry, known as Glaziers points, or glazers points.
- POS
- Acronym for "Point of Sale."
- Polcor
- Brand name of one of the extruded plastic mouldings also see "emafyl".
- PPFA
- Acronym for Professional Picture Framers Association. One of the trade organisations.
