Framing Terminology
- V Groove
- Decorative groove cut into the surface of a mount (mat). Can be a simple outline around the mount window, or more complex design.
- Visualisation
- Term commonly used for the process of using a visualisation programme - a point of sale program which captures an image from a camera, and displays various choices of mount board (mat) and Frame layouts for the customer. Some versions are also web based and allow the user to upload an image. Usually also prices the job. Many will integrate with other pricing programs, and CMC machines.
- V-nail
- V-shaped steel or hardened steel plate which is pushed into mitred mouldings, using an Underpinner (V-nailer), to give a strong join. Also known as a "Wedge."
- V-nailer
- A machine used for pinning together mitred sections of moulding. Also known as an Underpinner.
