What are framers preferences for mounting photographs. I hinge mounts to Wessex Box Board (600 micron) and hang the photographs to this. Do you think this is suitable or would the preference be to hinge to another piece of mountboard?

I prefer to use T-hinges onto 1400 micron mountboard. I usually buy the cheapest available (Wessex own brand). I would only use something thinner if I was using a moulding that had a limited rebate.

Thanks for the reply. My thoughts exactly. I think mountboard is a better alternative to boxboard. I often double mount so I take your point about rebate size.

There are photographs and there are photographs!

One might be a 6 x 4 from a machine in Tescos, another might be an expensive hand printed image and another might be an old irreplaceable photo of a deceased family member.

So there are no general rules for mounting photos and consideration does need to be given to conservation/preservation.

Related to the same topic. I have some large photographs to mount 30"x24" and the customer wants Art Glass. I intend to T-Hinge them to mountboard with an extra thick mountboard as the mount. Anyone have experience of large photographs T-Hinged keeping flat. I am slightly worried that they may take a slightly rounded shape in the centre. I don't really want to have them dry mounted but what are peoples thoughts? Thanks.

I have 4 large silver bromide prints waiting to be framed. They have come with 3.5mm mounts form Austria. The prints are on quite heavy paper and held in place with quite large photo corners made of the same paper, they are similar in idea to the smaller melinex/mylar ones you can get. Perhaps an option?
