Re: Staplers - Is there any particular to buy?
I use an Omer staple gun, compressor powered. Model 3G.16H. Takes from 4mm to 16mm staples. For canvas stretching I use 1/4" (10mm) stainless steel staples. This is a wonderful tool to use. Well made. It'll work at a max of 7 bars (100/psi) I only fire mine on 50/psi. with 10mm staples.

Re: Poor Photo Mounting
Re Jonny2morsos last post. Surely if hot pressing a print alters the contrast, then it is altering the state of the original, which renders the print less valuable and no longer saleable as 'mint'. OK if the client wants or agrees to that then that's fine, but otherwise, isn't it another argument fo...

Re: Cost of Photoshop
Actually, Lightroom will work with RAW, Tiff's, JPG's and PSD's (Photoshop's native files), so it is quite versatile. It is a database which works on the 'Keyword' system, and if you're a full time photographer, or anyone with thousands of images, then that certainly is the way to go. Eliminates the...

Be careful with heat sealing though. It will render any valuable print valueless to any discerning collector/customer.

Re: New member, new to framing. Lots of questions!
Looking at the examples, especially those sizes in such thin moulding, I think I'd order metal chops and save a lot of hassle. Better strength/width ratio.

I use one of these. Very handy if you have enough use for one.

Re: The promise of work to come .....
I always price the work as a 'one off', i.e. no discount. Tell them they'll get the volume discount as and when it comes in as a firm order. No problem then!

Re: Memoory Card readers
I use a 'Rocketfish' RF-CRSwivel. Reads CF UDMA/SD/ and SDHC cards. The USB plug folds away, making it VERY compact. It's an excellent reader. Quite inexpensive too.

The modern 'fine art' capable ink-jet printer was invented (or at least perfected) by Graham Nash, ex-Hollies pop group/Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and his then road manager, Mac Holbert. They got hold of a couple of 'Iris' printers, then costing about $35,000 each, and, realising the potentia...

We're lucky enough to live next door to Butchart Gardens. What'll grow there will grow in our garden. The Crystal Gardens have gone now. Everything else is still there though!

What's wrong with offering that service and making a profit from it? I do quite a bit of it for customers. 'Eco Print Shield' is an aqueous based waterproof coating. Brush or roll it on. Pretty easy to use. Just follow the simple instructions on the bottle.

Re: Glass and board Cutter
I have a Keencut Excalibur 5000. It's probably the most versatile and used tool in my workshop. I do all my straight-edge cutting (as opposed to bevel) with it, from hardboard, foam-board, mat-board, MDF to glass of all types. I've even cut a 5mm thick mirror with it as a favour for a good customer....

Surprised no-one's mentioned Lightroom. For storing, cataloguing and searching a lot of images, this is the application. It works as a database by using keywords of course. BUT the best thing about it is its printing module. It will handle 'swanlinnet's' problem with ease. Design your own printing t...

Nice job. Really suits the artwork. I did see this guy in the late 70's at the Birmingham Odeon (or Hippodrome), can't remember. He was at that time the drummer in Rod Stewart's band. For what it's worth, he's a pretty mean musician.

Re: Best paper for prints
Epson Exhibition Fibre is a beautiful paper, not cheap though. Also Moab Entrada gives a nice mat finish. Give them a try. You're probably already aware, but be very careful about printing other people's work without prior permission/payment though. Breach of copyright is a pretty nasty thing to get...
