Re: How to best frame this original canvas oil painting?

Thanks Mark - that makes a lot of sense.

Yes I do know how to mount it other than stretch or glue it and I’m just amazed at myself for asking the question. I mean, obviously I know so my question was redundant, right?

Re: How to best frame this original canvas oil painting?

Too small to stretch really as it’s about A3+, plus I’d then loose the edges which I want to keep visible.

How to best frame this original canvas oil painting?

A friend painted this picture of my son’s dog which I’d like to frame for him. 9CD40A03-8905-4ADF-A6F1-D35CD151C835.jpeg C9F1F939-4877-4B26-BA2C-A22EE6BA16B0.jpeg I’d like to keep the edges visible and it’s not valuable but it is original, so I don’t want to simply glue it to a backing board. I was ...

Re: How to re-frame this?

Hmmm, there's an idea. Might hang it as-is above the carved wooden heads my father bought vmback from Bali donkeys' years ago.

Thanks for the ideas. I've removed it from the frame so far :

For some reason, the 'backing board' was a sheet of 2mm glass. You can guess how long that lasted whilst the frame was stored, moved around etc.

How to re-frame this?

Hi,

I picked this up at a jumble sale - there was something about it I liked, but think it could be framed better. Maybe a solid wooden backing and frame, nicely stained or similar?

Re: KREGS

I have one and only done some test joints. One thing I discovered was although they state that the wood has to be a minimum of 16mm thick to use the jig, this is only because the screw will come out of the wood 8mm from the side you drill the hole, so 16mm thickness means the screw will be central. ...

Re: How to join the backing to the mount for a deep mount.

Hi Jayvee,

Sorry - I can't really picture it. However, I've just though that what I should do is to put a strip of mount board across the top to the front mount and then hinge that to the back mount, so bridging the gap et voila, problem solved.

How to join the backing to the mount for a deep mount.

Ok, so normally I just hinge my front mount/double mount to the rear mount board with a tape hinge. However, I've just done my first deep bevelled mount (using 5mm foam core for the bevel) so when I stack the rear mount board, the artwork and the front mount with the deep bevel, I can't simply join ...

Stretching a warped & cracked acrylic painting

Hi, A friend of mine wants me to stretch an original canvas he's bought back from overseas. The trouble is, he thinks it's been painted with really thick acrylic and then rolled before being completely dry and it's going to crack severely if we stretch it. Any tips of what we can do? perhaps a coati...

Re: Mitre trimmer not cutting straight?

I remember someone over the pond on the Picture Framers Grumble mentioning "a good mitre i.e. a join you couldn't fit a credit card into". I guess what constitutes a good join varies. Personally, as an inexperienced framer, I worry about gaps the size of a hair, although I *know* nobody el...

Re: Framing a mirror - need t strengthen the bottom of the frame

Thanks for all the tips - picked up some 'L' brackets today. I'll try to slightly bend each bracket, so that when screwed in they pull the mitre together, I'll also try the hanging technique via the bottom frame. For hanging, I've got what my shop calls 'strap hangers', which take 3 screws each. It'...

Framing a mirror - need t strengthen the bottom of the frame

Hi all, I'm about to frame an old mirror (24" square and about 3/4" thick). It's very heavy (in my limited experience) and I'm wondering if the bottom mitred joins of the frame will be strong enough to take it's weight? I think it should be as it'll be glued as well as v-nailed (the frame ...

Advice for a novice - PHP-70 ATG tape safe to float artwork?

HI there, I've a few ideas floating artound in my head re floating mounts and artwork etc, and was wondering if PH7-70 ATG tape is OK to float an inkjet print by sticking it to a piece of foamcore (cut smaller so you can't see the foamcore) and the foamcore to the mountboard. It's not a conservation...

Morso blade alignment

Hi,

How critical is the blade alignment on a Morso? The manual goes into some detail about getting them exactly right - do you have to be really precise or do they just need to be pretty close?

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Thanks and help with my new Morso

Hi, If you look at the 2nd message in this thread, the last paragraph tells you how to request a new manual. Just follow the link and then use the 'Contact us' section of their website. I filled it in on Saturday, they emailed me for my address Monday, and the manual arrived Wednesday. Regards, Steve

Fitting blades

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Got my spare blades back from Lion today and have just fitted them - big difference. (The blades that were on it are going for a sharpen tomorrow). How precise do you have to be fitting the new blades? The manual (kindly sent by the manufacturer and which also arr...

Re: Thanks and help with my new Morso

Thanks everyone, No box with the chute;still can't see how to attach it. I think the knives on the machine could do with sharpening - they do leave a 'tramline' and looking closely, I can see a nick on the blade. I'll get the spare set serviced first and then the pair that are on it. I'll investigat...
