insurance

hello, wonder if someone can advise me about insurance. I have a policy which it turns out (unbeknown to me!) does not provide cover for damage to artwork in my possession. I obviously thought it did but some rather ambiguous wording in the schedule excludes that. I am in the process of making a com...

Cutting a window using 3.5mm mountboard

hello fellow framers I hope everyone has stayed safe and well these past two months and managing to weather the storm. Re. the above subject, I hope someone can help. I haven’t used extra thick mountboard for some time and from what I can remember, past experiences proved tricky. I have a large vint...

float mounting

hello fellow framers float mounting – I do a lot of it, much more than window mounts A lot of the work is large format (about 1.5m x 1m or even 2m long) and quite heavy stock. I’ve tried different methods and materials over the years and in the main the results are always satisfactory. I normally us...

pain in the neck

I mean, literally! Hello fellow framers. It’s been quite a while since I posted, but I have a health related question. Do/have any of you suffered from very stiff neck and shoulder pain? I imagine most of you will say, yes of course, it’s a hazard of the job. But I’ve been troubled with it now for a...

Re: ‘removable’ glue

Lots of views but only one reply! Take it this is a bit of a tricky one then.

Thanks for your suggestion JFeig, though not sure this would give quite the result that the client wants.

‘removable’ glue

Hello Framers Forum Haven’t been here for a while! I wonder if anyone can help. I have some very expensive tintype plates to frame for an exhibition, which will be float mounted. I have been in touch with the photographer (who is in the US) to ask how they are normally ‘attached’ and she has replied...

Re: Morso problems

Concrete floor IFGL, so not likely. The connecting rod seems to have been the problem. Thanks for getting back to me.

Re: Morso problems

Great minds Chris! I decided to pull the whole thing out and have a poke about. The nut on the connecting rod had come a little lose. I tightened it up and hey presto – seems to have done the trick. Such a little thing!
Many thanks.

Morso problems

Hello Fellow Framers My trusty (and rather old) Morso has started to behave oddly. It is failing to cut right through to the bottom edge of the moulding. Which obviously, is something of a problem. The blades appear to be falling short by about 3mm. I haven’t changed or adjusted them recently, so it...

Stretching a very large canvas print

Hello Forum members It’s been a while since I visited, been very busy – though not always picture framing! I have been given a large (about 1.5m square) canvas print to stretch. It’s not valuable but it’s going in a swanky hotel and needs to be a good job (as they all do of course). What I’m wonderi...

Re: framing a LEP without a mount

Thanks very much all of you for your considered responses. As the general consensus is that a window mount is the best route, I’m pretty sure my client/customer :) could be persuaded that is the best way to go. I didn’t persist at the time as I wanted to give some thought to how else I might be able...

framing a LEP without a mount

hello forum members, what would you recommend is the best way to frame (or rather mount) an expensive limited edition print without a mount? My client doesn’t like window mounts. The stock is a very matt high quality art paper, size 650mm x 750mm. Wouldn’t want to photo mount it. Is dry mounting acc...

thanks Dave, that sounds a good idea for the backing, but still not sure how well I could invisibly tack the artwork to calico.

textile art

hello Forum members I have a rather lovely piece of textile art to frame for a new customer. We discussed the various ways it could be done (though I did say at the moment, I'm not certain of the best way). I know there has been discussion in the past about the use of tapestry tape for textiles and ...

Re: can anyone help identify this moulding?

just letting you know Andy, would you believe, the Enrique Lopez rep lives only about 15 miles from me down here in Cornwall. Unfortunately, after much searching that company and several others on the continent – no joy. No-one can identify it. Thanks for looking everyone.

can anyone help identify this moulding?

gilt_frame.jpg Hello Forum members I have just collected an oil painting and need to identify the frame so I can make another frame to match. I have had a look through my catalogues and a few more online but no success so far. It looks a good quality frame, antique gold scoop profile, 70mm wide and...
