Fabric Wrapped Mats
Hi All, I have recently finished framing a C-Print. The final finished size of the frame is 30" x 175". The print itself is only 22" x 144". The print was first face-mounted onto a 3mm UV-Filtering Acrylic with a 4mm thk DiBond backing. I then built a single mat of 3mm thk Forex/...

Re: How to hinge watercolour and wax on paper
Hi all, Well, the job was finally done and the client was happy with the results. From all the contributions over this thread, I have decided to float the work on a piece of Rag mat slightly larger than the work itself using "photo corners". I even had to make a penetration on one of the p...

Re: Cutting DiBond with Print already mounted
Hi S, Thank you for your reply. I just find it a little difficult to mount with the Dibond cut to size. If the prints is the same size as the DiBond, when we are inching the DiBond and the print through the laminator, we are also at the same time peeling the release paper off the mountng film that i...

Cutting DiBond with Print already mounted
Hello everyone, Recently, there has been a spike in requests for mounting of large scale photographs; sizes ranging from 40" x 60" to as big as 61" x 120". I use a roller laminator for the mounting and for these sizes, I will mount them on 4mm thk DiBond sheets. Because of concer...

Re: How to hinge watercolour and wax on paper
Hi Davie, Thank you for your email. I am tempted to float hinge the work onto a rag mat that is slightly larger than the work itself. This way, the rag mat can provide the support for the work as well as the solid surface behind to reduce the translucency of the piece and thereby hopefully will hide...

Re: How to hinge watercolour and wax on paper
Hi Gesso,
Thank you for your reply.
Well, the client is thinking of floating the piece as the edges of the work is interesting and would like to expose them.

Starch Paste on Digital Printing Paper
Hi All, I ahve recently been sent this message from a conservator: "Most photos are not on traditional paper but on digital printing paper that we can't use starch paste, a paste for conservation framing. Need to make sure that they don't apply tapes onto the prints." Can anybody shed any ...

Re: Framing a Trans
This piece is printed to be back lit as the print is clear from the front and "blur" when viewed from the back. However, it is now to be framed like an ordinary C-Print. My main concern is how to hold up the trans in the frame package as it is large and thus heavy. Because of the glossy na...

Re: Framing a Trans
it is those prints that are translucent and used in a lightbox. The base material it is printed on is kinda like cibachrome and it is extremely glossy too.

Re: Fuji Crystal Archive Supergloss (Fuji flex)
Yes, definitley Hot Mounting it in a Hot Press is a definite no no. There is really no way of presenting the image flat and nice without mounting. I would go for roller mounting it on an Aluminum DiBond or Forex sheet. Both products are manufactured by Alcan Composites.

Framing a Trans
Hi All, A client has a trans that needs to be framed and I wonder what is the best posible way to secure the trans within the frame package? Is mounting the trans onto a DiBond a good option? Will the adhesive show through the translucency of the trans? With the nature of the trans, how would you hi...
