Re: Canvas framing

Robo, accept that others do things differently to you and all will be well at this festive time of year. And please don't make assumptions that I'm not one of those framers who will "blow you away". The original poster asked for advice from EVERYONE as to how they made the back of the canv...

Re: Music Licence

The liscence fees are calculated on the square meter or footage of your premises. One point to note is to play your music through a portable radio as the tarrif from PRS is lower for portable radios ( my next door neighbour has a shope exactly the same size as mine. but pays more than twice as much ...

Re: Canvas framing

I don't usually get involved with the handbag swinging arguments on here, but fix a board on the back of a stretched canvas? what happens when you need to re-tension the canvas? A major stripdown job which has the potential for damage in my opinion. However, it's just possible I've been doing it wro...

Re: Cotton museum boards.

Cotton boards tend to be what you could call more flimsy than whitecore boards beacuse of the material they are made of and it's fibre structure. I used to use Crescent RagMat almost exclusively and I always found it to be a superb board, easy to cut as long as blades were sharp and a really good ra...

Re: Customer Permission

Rather than ask each and every customer, we say in our terms of trading that we reserve the right to use photographs of any of our work for website/promotion use. What we also do is give the customer the chance to opt out rather than opt in. Very few opt out, but there are some we would never use fo...

I'd also be interested in some details, I really need a couple of pieces on permanent display as samples.

Thanks

You've got a bank that will give you a loan at the moment? I rent my Gunnar F1XL Hybrid and i'm very happy with that situation, the back up is very good and the abilities of the machine will soon be caught up with by my own!!! Theres always pros and cons as to buy or rent and they differ from busine...

Re: Deposits!!!!!!

We use a computerised pricing system (Frameman) and the final screen before printing the order gives the customer the choice of paying a deposit or paying in full. We can over ride it and go for payment on completion, but that is not offered to every customer. we need the cashflow and so the very le...

You want to do a background check on Arqadia? OK, but who are you using now? did you do similar research on them. It seems just a tad excessive to me when you could simply ask for opinions on here.

It looks like one of the prints published for the tourist market, I'd be happy to take a look at one or two of the souvenir stands next week for you. (going to be in the country this weekend, so I can't do it before)

Re: The best of the bespoke framing market

Not wanting to start a cat fight, but if your sales team were on the ball and contacted the framers out there like myself, we would not have needed your "little missive" 15 years in the business and have never seen a rep from A&T!

Re: Cutting fancy mounts without a CMC

I'd definately agree that you don't need a CMC to produce work like that, but can it be priced to cover the set up and time taken to make it? More to the point, will the customer pay it?

Nice bit of work though, well done. Would it be asking too much for an indication of the retail?

Re: Ready made frames pricing

I go for the same price regardless of whether we fit the artwork or not! Good selling point to the customer if they don't want to mess around fitting artwork. But to be very honest, I don't get asked much for empty bespoke frames.

I'm not sure whether to laugh, cry or check which forum I'm on.! Whatever the O/P thinks, starting framing is not going to be a lifeline for an ailing business. As has been said before, it takes a long while to build the credibility that brings in the highly paying jobs and to be honest I really don...

Re: Alphamat Artcare new colours

I really get annoyed with the way that lots of companies don't push mountboard to the fore. I guess it's just not as sexy as mouldings! quite often there are new boards but we just don't get to hear about them or we get told about them and then there are no chevrons available for months! :head: Give...

For sale and wanted

Is there any possibility of splitting these into 2 sub forum, one for each?

It just seems it might make things a little easier to browse by knowing which are items for sale or which are wanted from where they are.
