Spring Clips
I have been asked to make 7 display frames, 650x400mm for exhibiting artwork in a hotel. The artist wants to change the pictures from time to time, so wants to be able to remove them easily. It seems that the main options are flexi points, spring clips or turn buttons. I have a flexitab gun that I u...

label in sports shirt
I have been asked to frame a rather special sports shirt, signed by an Olympic medallist. When I started working on it, I noticed the size label at the back of the neck. What do you guys do in that situation? Cut it out or leave it; cutting it out would leave a small frayed stump, which I think woul...

Re: framing old certificate
Thank you all for your input! Copying the certificate onto archival paper is something I would be happy to do - the original could then be kept in a melinex sleeve, in a safe and dark place. Trouble is, my husband wants the real thing on display, so I will go for the sink mount. One more question - ...

framing old certificate
I have an old certificate to frame; no monetary, but great sentimental value. It actually belongs to my husband; it was his father's and as his mother has recently died, it has come to him. The frame was not in good condition, so the plan is that I will re-frame it. It appears to be stuck onto, or m...

Re: Proper business
I wonder how many on the forum started out working from home? Markw admits that he did and then went on to a commercial property. Is that the normal route into the business? Or do people most people bite the bullet jump straight in?

mitrecraft/framing essentials
I thought I saw somewhere that Framing Essentials had risen from the ashes of Mitrecraft, but I can't find the contact details anywhere. Does anyone know their phone number?
Thanks

hangings
Problem time again. I have a couple of large posters to frame and want something good and strong for hanging them. I usually use D-rings, which have been all right so far - but then I've never done anything this big. I got some strap hangers, but they are too big. Also, what about wall fixings? Has ...

Re: Posters
Thanks for that. Having seen the photos of the big frame you made earlier this year, I am inspired to have a go. On the other hand, with something that big, would it be better to just use acrylic? And if so, would I still need to strengthen it with the PSE pine?
Thanks for the help!

I need some advice please! I have been given 3 posters to frame, two 1080 x 780mm and the other a bit smaller. Customer wants a white mountboard and black frame. So far, so fine, except that I've never framed anything that big, and am using a hand saw, CS79 underpinner and cut glass with hand cutter...

Re: When a good rep can make all the difference
I'm very shocked to hear that Pete from Wessex was fired. He came to see me recently and was so pleasant and really helpful - was going to sort out all sorts of things like samples and other stuff; said he'd be in touch within days. I hadn't heard, so had (unsuccessfully) been trying to ring him. No...

needlepoint
Can anyone out there help me with this one? I have a piece of needlepoint to re-frame - the canvas has fallen inside the frame. I've opened it all up at the back and found that it has been stuck down onto a piece of hardboard (instead of being laced) with masking tape and then stuck to the mountboar...

damaged frame
This morning I finished a frame - obeche, stained with Liberon palette dye (2 different shades)to go perfectly with a watercolour painting. Clear matt varnish on top. Left it somewhere safe, only to come home to find my husband had put it somewhere else and accidently dented it. He wasn't supposed t...

Re: Pricing sports shirts
Thank you all for that. The method you all describe is the way I was taught, so you've reassured me. I haven't actually seen the one that was already done, but would want to have a look at it. As this is for a friend's son, I may do it as a practise piece and then the next time I'm asked I can charg...

Pricing sports shirts
Please could anyone give me an idea what they charge for framing a football shirt? I've been asked to do one (my first) and know that they had another one done recently (at a 'proper shop') for £70. Sounds like a lot of work for not much return - what do you think?

Quote query
I am starting out in framing, working from home. I have done stuff for myself and odd bits and pieces for others. My plan is to go public, but I'm not ready yet. I work within a large organisation and have been asked whether I would be interested in framing a management team photo board. You know th...

Re: Underpinner problems
Thanks Jay - the absence of HD on the box or stickers on the sticks clinches it - the ones I was querying are for soft wood. Wish they'd put SW on them for numpties like me!

Re: Underpinner problems
Talking of Cassese wedges, please could someone tell me how to tell them apart? Colours for different sizes, fine, but hard/soft isn't mentioned anywhere, not even on the box they came in.
Thanks
