Re: Poor cuts
The 70mm figure is going to be the overall depth of the blade - so 20mm from the braise line could well be very borderline depending on the angle you take the measurement from - vertically straight down to blade edge or at 45 degrees from braise line to blade edge. They might be OK for another sharp...
Re: Poor cuts
How old are the blades and how many times have they been sharpened? What height are they, so how much metal is left before the braise line? Were they hollow-ground on a Morso approved machine, or have they been flat sharpened? If the other set are cutting fine, it does sound like a bad sharpening wh...

Re: Wood finishes - not framing
Quick and easy as requested, I would suggest Polyvine varnish. Dead flat or waxed finish, Lions do a small range of coloured and clear finishes in the waxed finish. A decent specialist decorating suppliers that the trade would use or Axminster Tools also do them waxed and dead flat including exterio...

Re: whats your favourite feature of your cmc
Speaking as someone who started off in the family business using a flatbed mountcutter before moving on to a Valiani pneumatic - it is the ability to be able to see the layout you are creating on the screen with the CMC, particularly useful for multi apertures where you know that the measurements ar...

Sorry, should have said, but we were looking beyond the normal suspects (ie Simons/Arqadia etc) for something a bit different.

Searching for oval frames
A customer has brought me in a set of old cameos of family members (Victorian era) for reframing. They were last framed around 20 years ago, not to the best standard. To get the look they are after I need to find a supplier of small (approx 4" x 3") oval frames that are prettier than plain...

Re: LION - Framers Event 2011
Spent a very positive day yesterday at Lions who looked after us all brilliantly: from the guy directing us in the car park on arrival, Lee greeting us at the door and making sure it all ran smoothly, the lady who did the teas and coffees and huge spread of sandwiches for lunch, to Pete and Jan who ...

Exterior hanging sign for customer
Morning all Had a customer in yesterday with a sign (about 16" x 12") that they have had printed on to dibond. It is a double sided sign and they need it to hang from a framework which is already attached to the outside of their building. They have chosen a 70mm wide flat obeche moulding w...

Re: I could be sick.
If you don't want to deal with another moulding supplier and can't find anything suitable, why don't you do a handfinish paint and wax job on a barewood? You can get tester pots of paints to get the right colour, you won't have loads of moulding left over and hopefully the customer will love it. We ...

Passe Partout tape - modern equivalent?
Bit of a sticky problem has come in that we need some help with please. A customer has brought in a display box/cabinet containing a stuffed duck. The cabinet was bespoke made to fit the duck, with a diorama made as part of the cabinet with sticks, twigs, leaves and things - so the cabinet has to st...

Re: Needed: Oval double mount in Daler mountboard
Jo If you are still looking for one then we have a circle/oval cutter that we used on our Mat-Pro 150 that is now surplus to requirements as we now have a CMC. It is only 2 years old. (We are keeping the mountcutter, it is just the circle/oval cutter we are thinking of selling). If you would be inte...

Thanks, that is exactly what I meant. Sorry I didn't explain it very well.
Only the need to set the stops once for each aperture, just flip the spacers for the next layer!

Re: Sticking together a multi-aperture double mount
Hi Bagpuss Sorry to jump in late on this one, but thought we would add our thoughts as well. We have been using a Valiani Mat-Pro for a few years now (have just upgraded to a Valiani CMC as well, but have kept the pneumatic for jumbo boards). Anyway, we always used to cut our double or triple mounts...

Huge thanks to Merlin and Mrs Merlin for their support, help and guidance. (We also have a Valiani Mat-Pro 150 Pneumatic with circle/oval cutter attachments that we are keep...
