Hi, I found this forum because I was looking for pricing software when I started up just one year ago. It has been a great help and source of information for me and although I do not post very often I do read just about everything posted here. John (Merlin) I was one of the ones interested in going ...

Hi, I have just purchased an lv track system for my first floor gallery (first exhibition in progress!) and I will also be fitting the same system in the shop. It has cost a great deal of money to buy and install but it does definitely seem worth it for the gallery area - I have had loads of positiv...

Hi, thanks for all of the replys and encouragement. It's strange what a little advice and encouragement can achieve,so once again especial thanks to MarkW, I managed to finish a six line mount this morning and then went on to do a three line sampler for a customer coming in tomorrow! Maybe I'll my G...

Rabbet Space and other build ups
While I'm in the mood for asking questions..... :?: I am frequently finding, especially when framing cross stitch, that the chosen moulding has too shallow a rebate. For some time I have been using Rabbetspace to compensate but it is rather expensive and time consuming to fit. Of course, I should be...

Framing papyrus
Hi
I have two papyrii (?) to frame. I was just wondering what is the best method of attaching them to an undermount (the customer does not want a window mount. Will standard t hinges (using rag paper tape) be ok?

Mark, thanks for the reply, I'm not sure of the make of my pen but will check out the ecobra and try again. I have done a lot of calligraphy practice in the past so using a pen isn't, or shouldn't be a problem, but of course I was forming letters then. Drawing straight lines seems just a little more...

Requirements for GCF Test
Another thread on the forum recently raised the topic of washlines, and the diminished demand for them. The Guild requirements for GCF candidates clearly states that candidates must be able to use a bow pen! I have been practising a lot recently and have yet to succeed in completing what I would reg...

HI John, the job took about 2 minutes from start to finish. Calculating my costs it worked out that I had charged the equivalent of around £40+ per hour. My standard hourly charge for labour is £30. I like to think that a bit of goodwill sprinkled here and there pays dividends down the line. We are ...

A cautionary tale!
Hi, I think this litte story is relevant to this thread. A couple of days ago a customer came into the shop and asked how much I would charge to cut a 5.5 ins square mount with a 1ins border all round. I replied umm...£1.50 and I can do it for you right now! The lady replied that she had just been t...

Hi Coxby, only 3 weeks wait eh? I have been waiting for two mouldings, can't remember the numbers offhand, since January! I was just 50cm short of one to finish a customers two frame order, he has been very understanding! I was first told the moulding would be in stock in the middle of March, then t...

Framing quality
Hi again, just like to say that I am seeing a lot of bad framing coming into my shop, some is artwork for sale framed elsewhere, some very badly finished. Is it possible to get masking banned period? Probably not as most framing suppliers to make a merit of selling it! I try very hard to maintain th...

lacing
Hi all,
very useful discussion here for a relative beginner like me! Especial thanks to Ormond for those lacing instructions, they are going to make life a lot simpler for me in future, and give me more confidence when taking in X stitch.

short lengths
Hi John, I have the same problem, mouldings have been appearing in shorter lengths and this has meant in one instance that I cannot complete a customers order. Not only were the two lengths I received only 1.8 meters long, I am also told the moulding is out of stock until March! I have one frame mad...
