Re: Mount Cutter Wanted / advice
correction £250 - £350. Typo. Also that probably includes a manual cutter come to think of it. I also meant to say if you are going to buy second hand then the mountcutter is maybe the last bit of kit I would recommend to buy second hand - they need to be precise and some can be a bit worn or have t...

Re: Mount Cutter Wanted / advice
I think Logan do some boards that aren't too expensive where you just basically use a hand bevel cutter but it has a guide rail, few stops etc. Some of the measuring is with a pencil first, one of my framers bought his home one in the other week so I saw one. Maybe £250 to -£250 for a jumbo one. A h...

Re: Legitimate use of masking tape
What glass? - Everyone know tapestries, just like oils, need to breathe. Tip from another website on needlepoint: "Needlepoint and other textiles need to breathe. Avoid framing under glass, or use spacers between the glass and needlework." i.e. a doublemount is a good way of making sure i...

Re: Freelance Framing
If you have your own business and can write invoices out for subcontracting/self-employment that should help greatly because for small businesses employees and the hassle of setting that up is a big pain and demand can be up and down like a bride's nightie, as we say in yorkshire anyway. It's a seas...

Wanted Jumbo CMC Mountcutter
If anybody has a jumbo CMC of reasonable spec. and age, still cutting perfect corners, I would be interested in buying second hand or taking over a lease. Budget £5k or thereabouts. I think they are overpriced as new for the technology - I don't shy away from controversy! Only justified if you have ...

Re: Help! Blonde Moment.
I'm a Mensan called James Cook, funnily enough talking of Australia, and from fairly near Whitby and Scarborough. So I feel qualified to speak here. I was the only person in my organisation of 4 who could load the ATG, usually with a struggle each time. Even then if it had not been used for a bit th...

Ignoring the fact you are probably best buying them in, perfectly cut - save you a lot of effort and waste maybe... I have a Keencut Excalibur 5000 which I imagine is similar to the Fletcher you talk about but I'm too lazy to look up just now. My plastic scoring blades are just utitlity blades turne...

Re: Arqadia Moulding 735 101 000
Got sorted with the Mainline mouldings number. I can recommend this company who I hadn't come across before - the website was modern, easy to use and to see the range, they got a sample to me dead quick, did me the box price on 24m so I could see the quality, came next day really well packed. The le...

Arqadia Moulding 735 101 000
Anybody got any of this moulding they don't need? It's a smooth matt black box style 22mm wide 30mm deep. It's out of stock till July 26th and I use a lot of it, despite the fact it's not nice to cut it's a stylish look for the price. Ideally I'm looking for a 100m box of it. Otherwise I'm going to ...

Re: Help - How do you look for staff?
It still appears to be free for a basic job listing in York. Maybe it's more for a featured ad or something. Good luck with it anyway.
I guess you might be right about London - people need higher wages perhaps. At face value I thought it would be easier to find skilled people in London but maybe not.

Re: Help - How do you look for staff?
Try your local Gumtree for free classified ads online. I think there will be plenty of people looking at the moment. I live in rural yorkshire where skilled staff are very hard to come by, or so I thought. I put one simple ad on Gumtree York and got about 20 -30 responses. Quite a few people want pa...

Re: Printer Choice
Epson dominated the fine art and photography market for many years but I think that is why the other two, HP and Canon, may offer better value as they vye for market share. I have owned Epson 10600 and then switched to HP z3100/3200 but also speak to users of other machines. I'm not bang up to date ...

Canvas Print Service For Framers
Been following the forum for a few months now and really enjoy the humour and chat. I am quite new to picture framing so it's useful, if only to know it's possible to deal with framing suppliers prices, stock shortages and quality issues and maintain a sense of humour. Luckily I employ a 25 year exp...

Re: Wanted - Jumbo CMC + boxmaker
Thanks, I understand your point but set-up costs on box making machines I feel might kill the job and my sizes and depths of frame are so varied (I offer 27,000 pre-published prints with 30 different frames online + 20 or more canvas sizes). Then I have to store the boxes, find the right size one ea...

Re: Wanted - Jumbo CMC + boxmaker
Thanks for the insights on wall mounting. I got some foam cushion edging from rajapack 20mm thick on sample (the blue stuff for furniture) and this may be the way forward for framed prints. It works out 30-40p a metre I think in volume which may seem a lot for price led online sales, but If I don't ...

Re: Wanted - Jumbo CMC + boxmaker
Wow thanks to all for so much help. When I say small workshop it's about 1200 square feet plus storage above the offices and toilets to the 4m height. About half of it is dedicated to office, printers, part-time photo studio, reception and display, the other half workshop. There's room for a jumbo C...

Wanted - Jumbo CMC + boxmaker
I have a wallmounted mountcutter already and a sheet material cutter. Quite new to in-house picture framing but being doing large-format printing and canvases for years. Mainly online or for others online so 90% of products need packaging, and a vast array of sizes. My premises are small and I keep ...
