Re: Hot Press

Seems there's no interest, so I'm going to, what's the word, disassemble it! Not using a hammer (yet).

Re: Hot Press

Thanks Prospero, but I just have never been required to use it, and if I was I have no idea what to do with the thing! Workshop heater perhaps . . .

Hot Press

Hi everyone, I have a large, old, green hot press, the sort with the large wheel on top. I got it when I set up as part of a deal, but have never used it in anger. Would anyone like it, or shall I just dump it? It seems to work (i.e. it gets hot), the thermostat works, but the temperature gauge does...

Moulding neeeded

Hi all, does anyone know where I can get a length of moulding, Wessex code C2147, 7/8" Antique Gold Spoon. I got the last 9 1/2 feet that Wessex Bournemouth have, and they tell me that replacement is irregular! I have four matching frames to make, and I'm one short (ok, 2 sides). I'm in Dorset,...

Hi Simon, the pictures were delivered today, the photographer is happy, so this framer is happy!

Many thanks for your help.

Help needed in Dorset

Hello all, I'm in need of some serious help here! I am picking up from Bridport on Monday (if they are printed) a couple of large printed pictures which I need to be mounted on board. The dimensions of the board will be around 665 x 775 mm and I think they need to be vacuum pressed. Does anyone arou...

Re: Narrow fillet

Thanks all, useful information as usual! Prosero - it is actually a spacer, but Wessex seem to like to call them fillets - what I mean is a rectangular piece of wood with dimensions that are 4mm (ish) by 12mm (ish) by quite long!

Narrow fillet

Hi all, does anyone know where I can get a 4mm x 12mm fillet? I've been given a frame with a normal 6mm fillet and asked if I can find something narrower.....

Morso

I've just come back from a weekend with a friend who surprised me when she said that she had got a Morso in her refurbished cottage. (Yes, it had the cross across the o, but I don't know how to do that!) When I asked for a look I was shown a very nice woodburning stove. Is there any link between the...

Re: Insurance

I got my insurance through Simply Business - the cover for equipment is enough to cover saws, underpinners and mountcutters, artists work is insured as well. I work from my garage, and that is ok. I pay around £230 a year. There is a lot of room for manoevre on the values you put in, and employees c...

Re: Customer Permission

I work on a collect/deliver system, and always ask a customer when I return their work to them, if I can include their picture and frame on my website. I've not had a refusal yet!

Re: Tee Square/Ruler For Glass Cutting

I use the 52" T-square from Wesses, and it's not bad to use once you've got used to it, although you need to have the glass at an edge if you want to lie the square flat on the glass, as the T cross piece is quite thick. It does have a cut out on the cross piece to let you run a glass cutter al...

Re: Framing sports jersey courses

Hi Kathy, a slight feeling of deja vu here! I did the course at DIY Framing, as part of a week course, and found it very good. I believe that the shirt day can be done individually.

Re: Best way to learn framing

Hi PlankD, I trained at DIY Framing (possibly a mis-nomer - they do help those who want to start framing as a business as well as the home framer, both practical and in the ways of framing business). I love the way DIY work - they start off by teaching you using a hand mitre saw, a small underpinner...

Re: Not a company Credit Credit

Hi Bagpuss, I have an HSBC business account and an HSBC personal account. I pay for most of my business purchases using a John Lewis Partnership card, which gets me and Mrs Shaggydog lots of vouchers at the end of every 3 months, and then do an electronic transfer of what I owe across. Shaggydog

Re: Framers Forum Live

I can only agree with what has been said here, a great time was had by Carole and I, and Carole enjoyed having a go at the guilding. It was good to see that at least the Wessex boys stayed for the evening do, and we had an interesting chat to John, his wife Susan and Chris then and got both useful i...
