Re: Fundamental Morso Questions
As to blade sharpening. Yes. Even with a pretty low volume business I have my Morso blades sharpened every couple of months. Blunt blades just make life more difficult! Just like using a blunt chisel. On the other hand, each time your blades are sharpened they get a little bit shorter. Eventually th...

Re: Mountcutting and Dry Mounting Qs
Is your table completely flat? Many mount cutters will follow the contours of the table, so the blade depth is varying as you cut.
Are you using a good quality mount board? Cheap boards are very inconsistent, and generally more difficult to get a good result.

I would not use spacers in that situation - it would make the job much more complicated to do.

Re: Glass Cutters Other than the Excalibur?
The Fletcher 3100 (available from Lion, or I saw one for sale second-hand on here yesterday) is a very good quality alternative to the Excalibur, and smaller on the wall. There are pros and cons to both, but I would happily use either

Re: Gesso who?
What sort of finish are you wanting to achieve, and what are you starting with (wood variety/profile)?
Acrylic gesso and RSG gesso are very different, depends what you are trying to do.
Give us a bit more context, and we will give you more opinions

Re: Moulding ID please
Having wasted so much time trying to find matching mouldings in the past, I will not entertain trying to match anything that doesn't come from one of my regular suppliers. My approach is to explain to customers that a) mouldings are fashion items - try matching 1990s style clothes in the High St tod...

Re: Oval/circular mount cutter
As fast as I am aware the best manual oval/circle cutter is the Fletcher 1100. I have one for sale in almost new condition with a full box of mat cutting blades and a glass cutting block with a spare brand new carbide cutting wheel. It also has a dust cover. This is really accurate and flexible and ...

Then, it looks from your picture that your measuring bar might not be fully seated into the machine. See pictures of mine.

The top T bar needs to slide into the channel on the measuring bar so it sits flush.

Re: Getting a reasonable appearance from unfinished wood
That one is done with ‘Driftwood’ milk paint and clear wax. I use milk paint because I like the tone it gives to wood, but also because it is very quick and easy. The paint comes in powder form, and it mixes with equal volume of water. For that finish ( and most of the others) I do the following Mak...

Re: Display area - what to include?
Show what you want to sell. And show your level of skill. Never put 'run of the mill' stuff on the wall if you want to sell good stuff. I personally have never put sports shirts on display because it's not what I want to encourage! Everything on my display wall would be framed to the highest standar...

Re: Workshop location dilemma
I have a worship approx 5m x 6m and I use a circular saw and a Hoffmann and sanders in the same room as a mount cutter and assembly area. First of all, it is not ideal, but it can be done. My approach is as follows 1) I have invested in top quality (M class) vacuum extraction. 2) I do have a plan ch...

Re: Display options
I have a Selwyns display tower for sale. These are silly money new, but do look very smart.
I’d be looking for £400 for it. (There are 2 in the picture but I only have one available) Could deliver for cost in the Midlands. Not available until late May as I am away for a month in Italy.

I would invoice the full amount on each frame completed, keeping the deposit in hand until the last of the work comes in, and credit it against that.
