Re: Alternative way of pricing?

There's no reason to apply the same pricing strategy to everything. Is there a significant labour element to this product? If not, then you can just look at the price that the market will stand, and then see if the cash margin that you will earn on each sale is sufficient for you. If there is signif...

Re: Premises size

I work from home, and have just over 450 sq ft. My main working area is a detached double garage, I have built a stud partition with windows just inside the roller shutter. This way it looks like a garage, but I can open the roller shutters and have daylight in the workshop. I also have a 100 sq ft ...

Re: Underpinner

There are a lot of different underpinners out there. Some will do the job faster, some will clamp better, have more power than others etc, but I suspect that if you are getting gaps, like Abacus says, it might not be anything to do with your underpinner, but to do with your cutting technique. In whi...

Oh, another thing Gary, I would suggest getting your training before you commit to any equipment or premises. :D

Re: New Business Venture, HELP, advice requested.

I would say that the majority of good framers are not particularly good at running a gallery, and vice versa. That isn't to say it's not possible! Just my observations, and own experience. There are obviously going to be exceptions. It's very different if there are two people, one running the galler...

Re: Mountboard - Individual sheets

I would contact your local retail picture framer. Obviously they will want a mark up, but pretty easy for them to add your requirements to their weekly order

Re: Morso Blade changing tool

It's a 17mm socket you will need. A socket wrench is probably better than the original tool, and definitely much cheaper!

Re: underpinner query

The Alfamachine 300 and 400 are both quality machines, I don't think you would go far wrong with either of those. If you are running a serious business I wouldn't fiddle about with second hand equipment, or a manual underpinner.

Re: Image of picture frame components

I think the OP is asking about a cross-section diagram, showing the components that go into a framing package, to illustrate that it isn't 4 sticks of wood and a bit of glass.

Good job!

How have you fixed the golf club in? I can't see any fixings on the photo.

Nice to see a picture of some framing on here, its been a bit sparse lately

I'd be very happy to replace their glass . . . . . . . along with a new frame.

Re: Price Check - please.

At a cost of only £141 the unframe and give it back option looks very appealing!

Seriously, that's NOT very expensive framing, I would have been almost double your price.

I use Mat Decoration tape which sticks to any fillet, and comes in a range of colours from https://www.ukindustrialtapes.co.uk/pro ... tion-tape/

Would that work, or are you looking for large quantities?

Re: Cutting MDF

I have a Keencut Steeltrak which will cut 2 or 2.5mm MDF effortlessly. But I generally don't use MDF at all.

Have you considered using something like ArtBak, Corricor or even Fomecor instead, which cuts easily with a Stanley knife?

Re: Tax on business startup

What we are trying to say, is that in order to find out exactly what you want to know, not hearsay, or unqualified advice, have a chat with an accountant not a framer! My advice to you, after many years in business, is that a good accountant is very valuable. Pick up the phone and have a chat with a...

Re: Tax on business startup

Get yourself an accountant. Even the decision as to whether to be Ltd or sole trader has tax implications so get advice. The chances are an accountant is not going to be charging you anything significant before you actually become a ‘proper’ business. I could only tell you what my accountant has adv...
