Shortage of moulding stock at suppliers ....
I have just spent what seems like hours trying to find a moulding ... any moulding, for a customer who has given me free rein to find a gold moulding to make a largish frame. Can I heckers like find anything that is in stock, virtually EVERY ONE was out of stock until August or September. Dates have...

Heartily sick to death of shiny marks on satin black mouldings !!!
I am so, so annoyed with the rubbish that comes out of the factories and the suppliers as far as the flat satin black mouldings are concerned. They are covered, well not entirely, with shiny marks, patches and scratches, which I/we have to cut around if possible, leaving so much wastage as to be dep...

HELP ..... one small piece of suedette mountcard needed !!
Sods law, I haven't got any Bermuda blue suedette card, L/J no. 8541, and I need a bit about 10 inches square, or could manage with 8 x 8. Since it is about a thousand years ago that I last used any suedette I really don't want to buy a pack of 5 from L/J. Do any of you have a small piece you could ...

Difficulties with concave back mouldings ....
or whatever they are called. Some of the expensive mouldings with these concave/spoon/overhanging back (I really don't know what they are called) are absolute pigs to cut even with sharp blades. As you will probably know as the blades cut through the wood the under side of the "overhang" s...

Gap when joining plastic mouldings. What would you do ?
I have to make a lot of simple square frames using Polcore or Artcore and I've always had the problem of some of the flat, 2cm wide ones, the basic type of flat topped mouldings, joining with 12mm wedges, leaving the inside of the joint open. No matter what I do I cannot get the corners to meet tigh...

we have caller display so didn't answer it this morning but the person calling left a message.... it was Arqadia. Same no. just rang again and I did answer, it was Arqadia again. So I called the above 0203 no. and it went to an O2 answer machine. I didn't leave a message. Then I rang Arqadia on thei...

Company that repairs/makes springs... useful to know.
I have an old Proturner underpinner and one of the main foot pedal springs broke on a hook end. Now obsolete it is nigh on impossible to get spares so I was worried about finding a company that can either repair or make springs. After a couple of phone calls I found the following company in Sheffiel...

Check your Arqadia invoices for Carriage Charges.
A couple of times it has happened where my web order has exceeded the £100 carriage paid amount yet the subsequent invoice has charged me £12.
Only saying, it's easy to miss.

Re: Arqadia L/J web ordering.... anyone out there got a clue
Has anyone received an invoice yet? My order from 7th jan which arrived on the 14th has not yet been invoiced. Arqadia used to invoice pretty much immediately No. I've only received one order so far and that turned up unexpectedly. We used to get an email invoice from Arq which was the perfect indi...

Arqadia L/J web ordering.... anyone out there got a clue?
Since Arqadia or rather L/J have revamped their website and order system I've been totally baffled by how awful it is compared with the old system. Everybody is aware what a foul up it is right now but my main question here is to ask if anyone has discovered how to put out-of-stock mouldings on to b...

How's business for you then this summer?
I'm finding that apart from my regulars, mainly contract-type customers, new bespoke orders are very hard to come by. I'm putting it down to general lethargy, shortage of money, the world cup and now summer holidays. I'm absolutely sure that some of you out there will say you've never had it so good...

Re: Appalling price of strutbacks up by at least 50%
"Yep that's a shocker. I suppose you can only notify the original supplier, say your moving, but express disappointment....is it just the strutbacks?" Oh yes, I have done. Trouble is, and I have found this with Mainline before, there is no sales rep you can talk to, unlike at Arqadia, Simo...

Re: Pro Turner underpinner question
I still have a Pro Turner underpinner, orange/red colour. Never had anything else for 25 years !! I'm glad you found Peter at Framers Equipment, he has helped me out a few times with chutes and other bits, but sadly the spares are becoming a bit rare. I've had mine in bits more times than I care to ...

Appalling price of strutbacks up by at least 50%
Just had the shock of my life as I looked at strutback prices. Been getting box price of 37p for a 12 x 10 ext leg from Mainline and it has now shot up to 55p. If you think that's bad, to buy one only has gone from 72p to £1.40. This sort of increase is across the range. I'd love to know why someone...

Re: Storing moulding
Years ago I had some horizontal racking in my garage and the nightmares it caused !! It's all very well at the start.. everything looks neat, but several days/weeks later and the mouldings have fallen all over the place you wonder why you bothered. You can't find what you're looking for. My recommen...

Re: Still on the subject of cold weather....
It's a double garage with open beams and rafters so any warmth will disappear upwards. We are talking outdoor temperatures, whatever it is at night tends to stick around through the day. It gets very hot in summer, too hot in fact ! I did read today on some website about this type of thing that once...

Still on the subject of cold weather....
I cannot heat my workspace in winter, it's impossible, so I have to put up with it. Cold every blummin where. My question to you is, when you have a working area like this how do you cope with cold mouldings, cold and possibly damp mountcard and back board, sheets of glass that as you pick them up a...

Is it just me or is it quiet out there?
I'm a one man band so rely a lot on website enquiries, phone calls and repeat business from regulars, but I'm seeing a downturn in these enquiries in recent weeks. I hope it is just a lull before the Xmas period but it is obviously concerning. I know we all start to panic at various times of the yea...
