Re: New framer in Brisbane Australia

Frameco stuff is hobby level but it's good quality. I started with some of their stuff and replaced it with professional equipment once I felt confident I could produce good quality frames and realised that I needed to halve the time it took to make a frame. As for a amitre saw, I was recommended a ...

Well done, John. Looks like a good thread that might be worth archiving for the oracle.

Re: For sale MORSO and other framing bits

Glad to hear it's good news, Jon.

I've had to give up framing at least for a while because of cancer. I'm now living in Sussex but the workshop is still in Wales. Hoping I might get back there in the Spring.

Re: keeping track of jobs

Yeah, if I'm honest the paper system does the business, and the iPad system helps to justify investment in toys! So how do you use the iPad? I've invested in one but have had to close the business for a while (chemotherapy, etc) before getting around to using it. Had some thoughts about a job costi...

Re: Man with a Van ?

You could always rent a CMC by the month - easy to give up if it doesn't pay and part of the rental should go against future purchase. At least, that's the case with Wizard - and probably others. Could you deliver by bicycle? That would be cheaper than a van and a nice old-fashioned buther's or gree...

Re: Framing Photos without a mount for a Photographer

I find a good alternative for photos with no mount laminating them, bonding them to foamcore and dropping into a floater frame.

Re: ATG stickyness

ATG needs pressure to form a bond. Just as well really, as it means there's a bit of leeway when lining things up. Press well down and you won't break the bond without some damage to the surface paper. If you want a really sting bond the Lion's conservation ATG sticks well. Less tacky than the norma...

Re: Pinstripe reverse bevel nount

On a Wizard CMC it's a case of setting a v groove with a non-zero width. Probably similar on other CMCs.

Take care! They'd feel quite insulted at being called spaniels. They eat spaniels for breakfast.

They're Briards.

I'll try posting some piccies later but I'm in bed at the moment using my iPad to type this.

Re: how to frame this

Tip: See how the sides of the frame appear to be bowed? That's called 'barrell distortion' and when the sides curve inward, it's called 'pincushion distortion. Both of those can be fixed in Photoshop, Gimp and some other software. Maybe fixable with your software too. The easiest way to fix it is t...

Re: Electricity supplier came round and changed my meter

Might be worth investing in one of those wireless metering devices that clip on to the tails coming from the meter and display the consumption on remote unit. Some suppliers give them away free on certain tariffs but I bought one in our local electric shop for about £35. Shows instantaneous use alon...

Wondering what it's about.

Should I replay and say £25,000 per year for a full-time mount cutter?

Re: conservation

Well, there's conservation and then there's conservation. Seems to me there's some very basic conservation that we should all observe even if the customer can't run to museum glass and you can't be bothered to mix up starch paste every day. Some picture may have a low monetary value but that doesn't...

Re: Nuisance Phonecalls ....

I generally ask them to hold on for a moment as the kettle is boiling, then put the phone near the radio. Generally they hang up after a minute or so but at least that might mean one or two other people won't get disturbed that day. The other day I did that and put the phone near the radio which was...

bleeding birmingham is not north!!!!!!! It's north of Watford! I was brought up in London and quickly learned that anywhere north of Watford was "up north". Once they opened the M1 some people would venture as far as Watford Gap which was clearly so-named because it was the opening to the...
