Re: Ways of reducing of costs of being in business

I am saving about a tenner a month by having a mobile card machine as opposed to a fixed landline connection. We dont bother with a land line as all business is conducted via the blackberry, calls, text and email. As I own the premises, most of my fixed overheads are covered by the other tenants wit...

Re: Handywrap

Handy wrap is my guilty pleasure!!! Love using the stuff and for most of my collections it suffices without using bubblewrap.

Slightly concerned the other day when one of my customers paid rather too much interest and then asked where she could purchase one from...... :sweating:

Re: Creating the website

I find http://www.clikpic.com are pretty good and very versatile, cost is around £35 a year, two years in advance and the numerous templates allow you to customise to your hearts content. I am still playing around with my website but pleased with the overall effect so far. I find it very helpful wit...

Re: Disaster Liverpool Shirt

In both the photos, what method have you used for attaching the shirt and former to the backing board?

We have used a combination of tapestry tape and stitching for the shirts so far completed..

Re: Furniture required - where did you find yours?

Built all my benches and shelves etc from 3x2 scant, very cheap topped off with 3/4 ply. I store the mountboard in one of the excellent Lion storage racks. Just purchased a large ex RAF plan chest off ebay which is the only piece of ready made in the gallery. Definitely pays dividends when dealing w...

Re: Morso grabbing moulding

Other doing the "Morso Dance" which I learnt pretty quickly, you can give your blades a quick dose with silicon spray.
I find that only certain mouldings stick, is it doing it with all your moulding?

Re: Fixing MDF to Canvas Moulding

Just an update, I eventually used pva and for peace of mind drilled a couple of pilot holes and inserted small screws for additional security. The customer was very satisfied and returned today with another similar painting and advised me that they had actually cost over £1500 each...not the £400 I ...

Re: Fixing MDF to Canvas Moulding

Thanks for the suggestions, I think the painting was about £400 so not massive money in the grand scheme of things! The panel will be 3/4" thick so screwing would probably be fine drilling a pilot hole first. The customer is set on this type of frame and as he has another ten to bring in will g...

Re: Fixing MDF to Canvas Moulding

Thanks Robo, quite right about the moulding, "L" shaped stuff, though Wessex appear to be hedging their bets in the description, "moulding for canvas"!

I think the customer is pretty much set on having this type of moulding and on that basis silicone could be the answer...

Fixing MDF to Canvas Moulding

Just had a customer in with an original piece of artwork painted in acrylic onto a 15" by 15" lump of MDF. It has cost him quite a bit of money and I am loath to attach the painting to the frame using screws as I can forsee that the MDF could potentially split. I am considering glueing but...

Re: Surface Mounting With Jetmounter

Cheers Steve,

I now recall through the mists of time you firmly "shaking me by throat" and warning me of the dangers of "orange peel" when using mountboard.

Would you recommend quarter of a turn when setting the pressure in this instance or indeed less?

Best Regards
Rob

Thanks for that Chris, and that seems to be the answer, I have had the Jetmounter sat in the corner of the workshop and will refresh my memory watching the dvd....

Surface Mounting With Jetmounter

A very basic query but any hints much appreciated. I need to surface mount a cheap print onto Daler whitecore and allow a border of colour to be visible around the perimeter of the print. Most important question, is it viable to jetmount onto mountboard in respect of the board density? What is the b...

Re: Framing Football Shirt Double Sided Frame

Robo, many thanks for that, the customer is undecided how it will actually hang, but glue and pinning would I think work fine.

Prospero, great idea and one that I think would work a treat and the 10mm foamcore would give the ridgidity that is needed.

Thanks for that Robo, how would you join the rear batten frame to the "proper" frame ?
