Art/Prints Sales off the wall - how was it for you in 2006?

For us its been rubbish for sales of framed art/prints, but serious amounts of bespoke framing and ready made frame sales made up for it. And a noted enthusiasm from customers for some of the more expensive/profitable "Quality" bespoke frames. I think that might vindicate our decision to d...

Sales have been similar to the trend Robo mentions, rubbish sales of framed art/prints, but serious amounts of bespoke framing and ready made frame sales. I think that might vindicate our decision to drop almost all of our art/prints sales in favour of increasing the ready made frames in the shop. F...

It all becomes seriously easier when you have dedicated shop counter staff, it allows you to just crack on with the work. Most of these one hour jobs are not rocket science ;) we still always surcharge for one hour framing for stock materials. that way if they want it they are happy to pay. The lads...

Must say Im beginning to agree with you there John. I cant say the FATG seem very relevant to our business these days, neither a help or a hinderance, just irrelevant. two hundred quid is a lot to pay for a magazine subscription, and their non-participation in this forum is inexplicable and rather i...

Im with you on that one NYAF. I dont know where Cornwall trading standards would stand on what was merchantable quality for a mounted print, but I have me own ideas and they are probably similar to yours. we have been known to turn down the framing when we can spot the potential problems with this t...

lol theres actually three, Robo, but since Mrs Kev found too many bikes in the garage I've reduced it to two. So its the bike in the photo below, plus a.n. other, and one more. Like mouldings, one cant have enough kawasakis. Carrying mouldings, well, I guess it'd a bit like Jousting, really.

Minimum legal wage as a starting wage seems appropriate, if you are paying for the training particularly.
I just see the minimum wage as a baseline, and with no relevant experience, then you probably find they cost you more money than they make till they are up to speed. imho.

solderless nipples didn't used to sound dirty. but these days with the propensity for body piercing, the thought of a soldered nipple makes ones eyes water.

Funny you should mention clearing prints! Mrs Kev and I came to the conclusion that the floorspace is far better suited to ready made frames. OP- Here's something you might try whilst you are sorting out the ebay listings- we are starting monday clearing out ALL our unwanted mounted prints at 50 per...

Burning anything when you are in direct contact with the fumes is foolish - but your comments are valid in terms of being environmentally sensetive. In a world where the impact of any potential threat should be considered - should we consider the potential effect of burning picture frames in a hous...

We dont exactly have an open plan workshop, although one of the shop windows is also the workshop window, so people passing by often stop and look into the workshop. The art is avoiding eye contact with people watching you work. After a few weeks you really dont notice them. I suppose one bonus is t...

Likewise we dont shift much "off the wall" lately, and it is irritating to see someone bring in a print for framing that thay could have bought from you. we did have one supplier who actually sent a rep round to one of our "bigger" seasonal customers (about 100 10x8 inch frames e...
