Quote How about you? Wouldn't it be nice to leave the bread and butter stuff to staff - staff who are good enough to deal with the nightmares too, while you get on with ensuring you are working to maximum potential - whilst, of course, taking on the framing jobs you really enjoy ? In theory thats wh...

miserable tale - and a warning!

I never mind helping out collegues in the same line of work. I seldom mind helping out someone starting out in the business. . . . . BUT sometmes I wonder why I bother. Sit down comfortably, then I'll begin.... Matey comes in the shop. Can we cut him some mounts and glass to fit. He's putting them i...

cockled stuck down expensive print and the FATG

A regular cusomer brings us a ready-mounted print by a well known westcountry artist which they had bought for 175.00 (thats 300 dollars/euros) We frame the item, lovely, customer's very happy. a week later they bring it back "this is all wrinkled up". lets have a look.... when we finally ...

we used to have an alleged primary location, right opposite the door to the towns main shopping centre, on the main street. sales were dismal compared to our previous secondary location. we were there for a year. reason it was so bad - no car parks, a busy street to cross. Our first secondary locati...

i get about twice the blade life on slater harrison white core/conservation board as i do on arquadia white core/conservation board, in Wizard CMC, if this is any help. Slaters also seems very easy and soft to cut by hand, and a lot less paper-cuts from sharp bevels lol. I love slaters board, and ju...

Selling Holes in Cyberspace

A friend of mine was in our workshops the other day. He's one of those linear thinkers (ok, then, call a spade a spade, kev, he'sa Hippie). He's watching the orders coming in from the online sales, and the mount cutter cutting holes in the mounts and he declares " hey you are selling holes"...

imho people are still buying images, and buying frames, they just aren't buying them together in the same place . We are still framing as much if not more than ever, and a lot of the stuff we have for sale in the shop in any case, seems to be bought online then brought in for framing but sales off t...

we were quiet for a day or two, then it went mental the past couple of days. We've seen a huge uplift in online sales during the heatwave, website stats showing most orders coming in between 10pm and 1am..... I guess people who dont go out in the heat must miss their shopping fix and so get onto the...

well football shirt frames seem to be the most searched for thing on the search engines in my website vistor stats, and we are doing anything between 5 and ten a week online, and a couple a week in the shop over the counter. We've sorted out a bulletproof, and idiot proof framing method for shirts, ...

Re: Foamboard backing

John, I use it before putting it into the frame. The tabs go in before putting the foamboard in too! we use one of those 40mm (inch and a half) hard wallpapering seam rollers to slim down the edges of foamcore and corricor/artbak and it seems to work very well 99% of the time. when the boss is look...
