Hi RoboFramers .....One thing to look at is, just how close to the mountcard the travellin head is. When cutting intricate mounts, one thing you DO NOT want is the head picking up the 'fall out' and tracking that around the board as well as trying to cut. I have seen that happen on a number of occa...

 and thats just those of us who use this forum and happened to look at the post who remember this enquiry. Ive also been chased twice by phone for a price, although I'd said "around a tenner, for plain wood, and VAT and delivery on top" I thought that would put her off. An over the ...

After a while limited editions dont seem to mean anything to me - which is a shame. But long before the days of giclee and decent quality self published prints, there were local places who used to colour photocopy almost anything -we even saw a "signed" "Lenkovitch" photocopy in ...

stickers on the backs of photographs

Pet gripe of the week- Self adhesive stickers on the backs of photos -not only some photographers and press agencies do it, but nowadays Im getting photos supplied to the public from a well known museum, and I know they are big on archival methods and conservation because they always insist on museu...

....... The plain fact is, lacing is tedious and time consuming, and anyone who is not charging a realistic price for this is doing the trade a dis-service in the same way as the cowboys who knock out cheap frames and generally set a low price-point for framing in the minds of the public. When disc...

OK then. You'll be sorry you asked.... I used to work offshore for a diving company. much of the work was seasonal, or "waiting on a phone call" so there was always plenty of spare time (they called it "leave" - I called it daytime telly) and I had picked up, of all things, an ol...

im not having any problems with artbak 3 coming unstuck using gum tape. Maybe its our cornish water ;) last time we had a problem was acouple of years ago with corricor's last version of the alleged same product. Then again when a supplier palmed us off with an inferior product (claimed as identical...

colouring the board core (bevel)

Gobsmacked by the awesome simplicity of this - a tip given to me by my newest member of staff who learned it on a framing course with a well known GCF- I have to pass this on. put some of the "non sticky" sellotape mask on the mount, cut the mount through the tape, paint the bevel, remove ...

Nice layout (eyeballs the plan chest with envy) - In the absence of a pension plan, that looks like my garage hopefully will after I retire ;) A friend of mine is now into a second full time career as a garage framer with absolutely no intention of opening a shop -probably a wise man- he's doing tra...

I'm a big fan of the "make it into ready mades" method -Like John we can sell as many of these as we can make- and the knock-on is the selling of more ready cut mounts.... also made from scraps... "we sell holes" ;) So in a roundabout way the customer does buy all the moulding, b...

yes. I framed three plasticene objects -possibly flowers- that my youngest and most impecunious (well, my meanest) son made for the long suffering Mrs Kev ten years ago for mothers day in 1996. so thats 10 years so far. Box frame, long screws through the bottom, spike the objects onto the screws, an...

I just had some of these to do for a retailer to sell on. Obviously the 20 for a tenner job lots from ebay, though. the brief was "do something special but cheap" (which means quick). resisting the hot melt glue, and the atg gun, we made up wee "boxes" out of 6x12mm PAR about 1/2...

I find our customers dont have much use for non reflective, although some do ask for it - maybe 1 out of 20. bracing bar(s) might help with warp prevention. these things scare me. Some of the canvas prints, photos onto canvas, seem to be miserable quality inks which can take you by surprise in their propensity to rub off. We dont get enough of them in to say we have a lot of experience with them, one or tw...
