"It really doesn't bother me, certainly not enough to create a post about it."

Apologies, shan't do it again.

Re: I saw this in a shop in Geneva- what do you think?

I don't much like the painting either Justintime, but i have always remembered what i was told by the framer who helped me when i was starting. He said, "Your choice of frame can make a bad piece of art look good or a good piece of art look bad." In this case, they have made a bad painting...

Here's a wonderful quotation I came across on another forum (you can tell how busy I am) -

"Never look at an ugly thing twice, it is fatally easy to get accustomed to corrupting influences."

Love that quote

Re: I saw this in a shop in Geneva- what do you think?

Thanks for comments (and thank you Tudor rose for rotating) Keith Unfortunately i couldn't go in, most shops still close on Sundays, but i would have gone in otherwise. I agree Jkx, i would rather have it in a float frame and i am not a fan either. Vintage frames, yes correct i thought it was ghastl...

I saw this in a shop in Geneva- what do you think?

Hi all, We have just had a nice break in Geneva, full of shops with stunning watches, designer clothes etc. I saw this in the window of a fancy shop and thought the frame is ghastly (just my opinion), but also does not suit the painting. I don't mind the painting, although i would not have it on my ...

Re: Is the customer always right?

Jonathan, I think my viewpoint has changed as my experience is that it has become much easier to offend people now than it used to be. You point out a persons glaring error ( tactfully) to save them additional cost and you get an earful for your troubles. Take this example, the person is either mean...

Re: Is the customer always right?

I think i would leave it personally. You have been asked to frame it and for all you know, that phrase may have a personal meaning. If they notice afterwards and it was wrong a they got a correct print, then offer to switch them over. That goodwill gesture will tend to be good for word of mouth refe...

Alternative solution for joining deep frames

A regular topic that comes up is how to join deep frames and strap clamps work very well. I have recently been using Collins mitre spring clamps which work amazingly well. I made some deep coving in oak and joined with these (where a strap won't work). https://tftools.com/products/collins-mitre-clam...

Re: New framer, struggling with pricing.

There is a big difference from being a business owner, with all the skills required to manage what there is in the business and that of a craftsman. Basic business skills are required such as: -developing a business strategy -setting up a record keeping system -calculating you costs of goods sole -...

Re: The Story of a Picture Frame

I certainly find it very interesting and informative Dermot. I wonder why pine is less effective than obeche when applying gesso. Is it to do with obeche being more porous whereas the resin in pine makes it more waterproof? I am glad i am not the only one who finds playing with the spindle moulder r...

3D printers

Does anyone have any recommendations for 3D printers. They have come down in price and i have loads of ideas for uses.

I have looked at various recommendations online, but wondered if anyone had one they had experience of.

Cheers

Re: What do you listen to when working?

Radio 4 from 8.30 to 10am. Then maybe into Womens Hour before it segues into an interview with another non-binary activist. Radio 3 if I'm gilding and want to feel high-minded, then classic FM to calm me down when it all goes wrong. Lunch-times listening to Jeremy Vine on R2 (dreadful taste in musi...
