Re: Acrylic artwork query
You should never glue artwork down in my opinion unless as already stated its reversible or you are following the wishes of the customer.

Re: glass cutting
I have the luck of having a glass shop right next door! So any cuts that I cannot make either by machine or hand go straight to him.
My wall mounted cutter manages most the glass we cut with a maximum vertical cut of just over 5ft,horizontal cuts are no problem at all as an 8 x 4 sheet fits easily.

Re: What will the GCF qualification get me?
I too am a non GCF and have been framing for the past 25 years, as long as we all keep up to speed with regards to new techniques and materials, whether this means going to seminars or via other means it gives us all more power to our elbow, as for the FATG our membership has lapsed. Budding framers...

Re: morso pushing
I am a big fan of using polyurethane glue, on all barewoods and with care on some large and chunky finished mouldings. I think the expansion can be a good thing on oak and ash where a simple, natural, or clear, wax finish will be used. I used to find with PVA that just sanding these frames caused t...

Re: morso pushing
Morso blades should always be hollow ground. As the guillotine cut is a 'pressure cut' the timber needs to peel away from the blades when cut to avoid 'pushing', if the blades are flat ground some degree of pushing will always occur. To elimate the chances of pushing: 1. Blades are hollow ground 2. ...

Re: shirt framing
A card template is a must for sports shirts and other garments, avoid the plastic hangers as sold by Lion unless you intend to make a cabinet frame where the items can be removed easily. I too advocate the hand-stitched method although I do use the tag-gun too (as long as the tags can be hidden well...

Typical turnaround time for us : Pre-run is usually quoted at 3 weeks although our gilded and hand-finished frames are set at 4-6 weeks as standard.

I use the Museum ragmount and find that you do need a new blade to cut it best.

Re: black mirror plates wanted
Try soaking them in Potassium Sulphide this will darken brass ones to almost black, if you want to have aged patina I always use ammonia.
