Wide silver moulding
Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can identify this moulding at all, it's a very wide 110mm in an ogee shape. The customer is looking for something similar but in a narrower width at around 75mm. The finish is what I would call Italian silver which has a warm tone over the silver, I have found a moul...

Re: Wax on wax off
I apply with either a brush or paper towel, on plain woods for a more durable wax finish I warm the wax with a hairdryrer so that it melts and really penetrates the grain wiping at the same time with a paper towel which also removes any excess whilst still appliying where needed, once dry, buff with...

Re: textile art
I had a similar problem, we chose to mount the textile with hooks and eyes as the customer wanted to be able to remove the textile the framing to had to be easy to open for this purpose. The eyes were riveted onto 2200 micron solidcore board (slightly smaller than the object) and the hooks were care...

Re: Brush for handfinishing with very coarse bristles
Best coarse brushes I find are the grass brushes, you can get these from John Mylands in London. Here's their number 0208 761 5700. They are available in 1" and 2" widths and not too expensive. They do last well too if looked after.

Bespoke oval frame manufacturer
I have a request from a customer for an oval frame in a bespoke size, I can make ovals myself to certain moulding profile and dimensions but need a frame outside of my expertise. Does anyone on the forum have any contacts that may be able to assist? The frame would need to be made from a decent timb...

Bullet points for magazine
Hi all, I have been asked to provide a bullet pointed advice for an article on framing based on the proposition of free advertising. I'm thinking of keeping it quite simple as to burble on too much about framing techniques, conservation, archival etc may leave the consumer confused. Has anyone on the ...

Re: Perspex/acrylic plaque
Thanks for the info I did have a look at their site which is very good, I'll have to give them a shout next time I need a gilded plaque (for pricing) as I generally get mine from the US, here: http://www.thegoldleaf.com/ The plaques are already sorted thanks to Will's suggestion above and I must say...

Re: sealing an oval frame
Good point prospero that's what I generally do. Another method is to use brown kraft paper, cut oversize and dampen to stretch the paper, apply pva to the back of the frame moulding, place frame onto kraft paper and press down on frame, turn frame over and using a small roller, roll where paper is f...

Re: Receiving moulding with marks... what is acceptable?
Damaged moulding is par for the course when you see how some is handled by couriers. Two things that get my goat is when the parcel arrives perfect, the moulding wrap is perfect, it's only when you unwrap that you discover the moulding was damaged 'before' wrapping- a right royal pain! The other is mo...
