Different mount types in one framing job

Hi there, I am looking at the trial version of Estlite with a view to buying. We have a number of different mount board types that we use in combinations in a single job. For example, 3500micron, 2400micron, blackcore, Alphacore, SolidCore etc which are all different prices. I can see the option for...

Re: Flat Mounting Advice

Yes - apologies for not using the correct term there! Unfortunately the term "flat mounting" is one that was used in our business decades ago, and I inadvertently used it - old habits etc. We do actually advise customers that float mounting may not result in the work being perfectly flat a...

Re: Flat Mounting Advice

Thanks very much for that link Jamesnkr. We will try the Hedgehog method, and see if that improves things.

Thanks again.

Flat Mounting Advice

Hello folks, We recently framed a limited edition print that the customer wanted flat mounting on to mount board so that you could see the rough edges of the paper. Obviously we recommended a frame spacer to lift the glass off the print, but the customer has come to collect it and complained that th...

Re: OS map instructions

Hi folks. Just thought I would add to this thread with my experience of these maps. Normally we mount them onto Arqadia's Jumbo Self adhesive board (999009351), but we recently had a customer who had a custom map that was folded, and had a cover attached to it rather than the rolled ones we usually ...

Re: Oil Free Compressors

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of a second, small compressor, but space is at a bit of a premium and we wouldn't be able to do your cellar solution easily in our premises IFGL. We have a Jun-Air Compressor at the mo John, but wanted to go Oil Free just to make sure we don't get any prob...

Oil Free Compressors

HI Folks - on the verge of buying a new oil free compressor and am considering Bambi HT 24P or the Bambi VT75. I will be running a computerised Mount Cutter, Underpinner, Staple Gun, and Air Blower Gun off it. As there are only two framers in the workshop at any one time, it is unusual for more than...

Re: Cibachrome advice

Steve - sorry about the typo  - it was probably a mistake more in relation to An Old Master's true identity that subconsciously slipped in there - I would have edited it, but for some reason couldn't find the facility on forum to do so. Any way, thanks again Steve!

Re: Price for framing a rugby shirt in a box frame & best me

Usually around £200 if it is just the shirt, but a lot of the time customers will bring in other items or photos to put in there as well, which may well bump the price up.

Re: Cibachrome advice

Just thought I would give an update on how I got on with the Cibachrome photo I needed mounting onto a support for float mounting. After the helpful advice of An Old Master, I contacted Steve Goodall at Wessex, and he graciously gave me the contact details of a couple of companies that do this sort ...

Re: Spring Fair

I'd like to go, but can't squeeze it in this year. The art and framing section does seem to get smaller every year. Took me about 1.5 hours to get round last year. Good to talk to suppliers face to face with all their products to hand though.

Cibachrome advice

HI folks - I have had a look at the previous posts regarding cibachrome photos which has given me some information, but there are a couple of other questions that you informed folks may be able to help me with. A customer has brought in a cibachrome photo which he wants mounted in the same manner as...

Thanks very much Mitreman - at least I know what I am dealing with now. The underpinner is still operating but I will get the switch replaced asap.

Thanks once again. :)

Cassese 810 problem

Hi folks - was wondering if one of you guys could shed some light on a machinery breakdown problem I have had. I have an old Cassese CS810 underpinner which had a problem when firing - the metal block blew off the back of the firing button. I have put the components back together and put it back in ...

Re: The Bad and the Ugly

I'd be interested to know what you do when you find this (client instructions permitting). For example do you just cut the artwork away from the old mount and leave the masking tape where it is or do you remove the tape from the artwork either mechanically or with the use of solvents. Personally, i...

Re: Framing fans

Thanks for the reply Roboframer - I mounted the fans before I got a reply and then left the straightforward bits to one of the other framers. I used wire in the end in three places. The difference in height between the two ends of the fan wasn't as much of a problem as it initially seemed. Had to ge...

Framing fans

I am in the middle of framing two fans. No, not two people that are very keen on my personal attributes, but the traditional Chinese type, made to keep ladies cool. I am amazed that I haven't had to do one before but this is a first for me. I was just after any tips on attaching the fan to the backi...
