Framer in the Oldham Area

I am no longer framing and a friend of mine is looking for a good framer in the Oldham area. He has found one person but they can't do mats, woun't pick up the framing molds and won't do oak because 'it's too hard' :o . I said probably best avoided anyway if that's the case. Does anybody know of any...

Re: Sandwich between 2 Fillets

Well I got the artwork on the wall. I was extra careful getting this artglass in there too (1300mm x 900mm). Hinged securely on to a single sheet of foamcore with a 3/8 strip of backing card around its edge to allow a light gap for the artwork to breathe. Frame is also made deeper with a 1" fil...

Re: Sandwich between 2 Fillets

Thanks again. Prospero that will work. Come to think of it I used something very similar on this piece of work although was probably easier to lie flat. The theory will be the same though.

Re: Sandwich between 2 Fillets

Thanks for your replies. I agree with your comments and appreciate that there will be no breathing space with the artwork trapped tight up behind the fillet. Reason for not using mountboard was twofold. 1. My Keencut will only take 1220mm board. 2. Want the artwork to go almost to the frame. Whether...

Re: Sandwich between 2 Fillets

Just to be clear - the frame would obviously surround the outer fillet leaving about 1/4" fillet showing.

Sandwich between 2 Fillets

IMG_0032.jpg Does anyone have a view on the following idea; I want to hang a large pastel drawing on heavy creased paper. The idea is to have it behind a 3/4 fillet (not mount-board, then Artglass, then a second fillet followed by the frame. This will give the breathing space away from the Artglass...

View both sides of a frame

If I wanted to frame a picture, album cover etc that I wanted to see both sides of what is the best way to secure the reverse in place and can still be accessible.

I want to be able to be able hang it either way round. Has anyone any novel ideas?

Re: Framing large artwork without mounts

Just thought I would post a photograph of the completed frame. 1100mm square. The artwork is held in plece with a wooded slip taped at the back to allow the paper some breathing space (thanks Prospero). It is probably the largest piece I have done so far which was not helped by my pinning machine ja...

Re: Looking for reliable Mount Cutter advice

I was in the same position as you, a photographer wanting to display my work and the freedom to how and what I wanted. I was worried about costs but eventually after keeping an eye out bought a second hand (well looked after) Keencut Ultimat. Best investment I made! I now do more work for others - s...

Re: Framing large artwork without mounts

Also, related to this and along similar lines. Artwork that is larger than the width of a jumbo sheet of mountboard, any suggestions on a way to hinge the artwork to something that would not cause damage to the art over time. Easy enough to keep in place using MDF (I usually use Artbak but again, no...

Re: Framing large artwork without mounts

Thank you. Definitely see where you are both coming from and Prospero I think the wide slip idea will fit the artwork I have nicely and still retain a minimalist look.

Framing large artwork without mounts

I want to frame a large piece of artwork on fine art paper. It measures roughly 1100mm square. The customer does not want a mount around the work which would hang it in place. I will use a thin fillet around the frame to prevent contact with the glass but I am afraid of the centre of the artwork war...
