Re: Belt Medals to frame

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply re using felt or velvet padded, over back mount, love that idea! I was going to use black foam core board but think that a felt covering would look even better. I will still push the belt pin through into the foam board and the buckle to secure at the back. Best regar...

Cutting spacers

Any tips on cutting spacers on a guillotine. After measuring the length I cut one end, its the other end I can't seem to get cut, I usually cut a bit longer then I still have to shave minute bits off to get them to fit in the frame rebate. Not always a success and tricky with a 6mm or 10mm spacer, u...

Re: Fixing commemoratives

Thanks for suggestion. Can you specify any particular foam double sided tape there seem to be many available online, but not at Centrado where I buy my stuff. Also the plaques are very clear transparent and the white tape I think would show through, there are black tapes which may be hidden on the b...

Fixing commemoratives

I have 12 Beatrix Potter Commemorative Coins to frame in sets of 4 in each frame. The coins are within perspex plaques 75mm square and are 22mm deep. Behind the glass will be a 17mm black spacer. I intend to support the plaques inside 4 window mounts cut reverse. The frame will be plain wood with a ...

Re: Reverse bevel for a double mount

Wow, started a discussion on this! Really appreciate your replies. Roboframer has the more straightforward approach, but glad of all the tips.
Many thanks from 'Judders'

Re: Reverse bevel for a double mount

Hi John, Thanks for your answer. I had to read it a few times to digest! So I understand your method of achieving two identical size boards by trimming the three sides after aligning the one edge and trimming the other three. Not sure why I need the pencil marks instead of using stop guides, is this...

Reverse bevel for a double mount

Doing a double mount for a pastel, although I shall be putting a spacer under, I am also cutting the mounts reverse bevel to catch residual dust. Having difficulty in cutting the bottom mount. Using my Keencut mount cutter I have increased the blade depth but it is not cutting through the board of t...

Re: Cassese underpinner problem

Hi Grey, thanks for your help. All Ok now assembled greased up clamp and pressure pad in position and foot pedal is now pushing the wedges in. Not sure what the problem was all about but learnt a few things en route!

Re: Cassese underpinner problem

Hi Gray, thanks for your reply. I have removed the block again, which seems OK, and greased up the channel. Resembled and after a few more adjustments now have some movement of the hammer. But 10mm wedges are still only pushing up half way above the top of the block. So it appears further adjustment...

Cassese underpinner problem

All of a sudden my old CS 88 underpinner has stopped pushing the wedges up. Its a foot operated model. I have removed the distributor block and cleaned it but the hammer fails to operate and push the wedges up. Is it time to replace the hammer or is it a cable problem? Seems strange to suddenly happ...

Re: Fixing a canvas floater into a deep rebate

Hello again, many thanks that is much clearer now. Understand about setting strips in a bit, I did wonder about that, was concerned about them showing from the front. I shall keep these notes for future reference. Big thank you.

Re: Fixing a canvas floater into a deep rebate

Hi Prospero, many thanks for the reply. I'm getting the idea, I think fixing a board at the back of the frame is fairly straightforward. I must admit I don't quite understand the strips and the undercuts approach!! However one way or the other, you have given me some much appreciated guidance and I ...

Re: Fixing a canvas floater into a deep rebate

Thanks for that reply. I like the simplicity of doing a floater frame with an upside-down deep rebate, however I still have a bit of a problem as the section which is then at the top is too narrow, my client wanted a 30mm wide frame, and there don't seem to be any mouldings that are wide upside down...

Fixing a canvas floater into a deep rebate

This is for a floater style frame in a white 30mm wide moulding. I am looking to use a deep rebate (Centrado CR63550) the rebate is 20mm deep and the canvas on the stretcher is 16mm deep, so not much to play with. I can't work out how to leave about 8-10mm gap round and fix the canvas in. The effect...
