Re: How to assess second hand machines?
Assessing secondhand underpinners is a bit less straightfoward. If it''s a manual underpinner, I expect it to have a good smooth feel when you operate it. If it's not so smooth, then I would want to investigate why this should be so. Personally, I would not necessarily rule out an older machine, lik...

Re: How to assess second hand machines?
When I bought my Morso, I just assumed it was o.k. As an ex-engineer, this was a bit stupid, but I was a bit too excited about the chance to get a morso. Fortunately everything was alright. So a few basics to consider: Most of us prefer to used a metric Morso model F which is the most modern type. L...

Re: Display options
I used Lions moulding corner display strips together with their spring pegs and angles for screwing to the back of the moulding chevrons. Some might think that they are a little bit pricey but I only bought 4 strips. I like the fact that everything hangs straight due to gravity and it's easy to set ...

Re: Sticky question
Yes, but whatabout protecting the originality of the figures, by inserting those holes into the feet, those holes were not an original feature of the figure and hence the figure is now no longer in the original condition which collectors prefer, therefore it could be argued as comprising the figure'...

Re: Sticky question
If I remember rightly, lego bricks are made out of ABS (Acylidiene butildene sytrene), there is a solvent which you can use to Stick ABS to ABS, it's called MEK (Methyl ethyl keytone). If you can stick it down to a surface which is made of ABS, that could be a possible solution. Mind you it's chemic...

Re: Sticky question
Semi rigid, or flexible plastics are not suitable for bonding with superglue. In the past, I have often tied some items in place using 5 amp fusewire, sometimes it's possible to conceal the fusewire. 5 amp fusewire is not always visually obvious, but you would need to assess how obvious it would be ...

Re: Sticky question
Superglue, or CA glue is not just one product where all brands and formulations have exactly the same characteristics and specifications. Manufacturing industries commonly use superglue products for assembling products where the glue bond must last the usable life of the product, which in some cases...

Re: Looking for Frame Supplier For This..
I have frinton galleries set of catalogues and price lists from 2012. There is a picture and also a profile of what is obviously the exact moulding in it, the moulding number is 3" SP, even the size of the moulding profile in the catalogue, when measured is correct. I hope this helps.

Re: Looking for Frame Supplier For This..
I agree it looks hand finished, if you zoom in you can see some over spray on the cut end of the moulding. I've got a collection of old moulding catalogues from shops which closed down years ago, but there's not anything close to that shape. I'm guessing that it was a special which was machined to o...

Re: Fixing to glass - options sought please?
I would strongly recomend that you do not use silicone at all. In most cases, the curing process releases really strong acetic acid, which is a lot stronger concentration than normal strength acetic acid and will quite quickly destroy the glove. Added to this the inside of the glass can be a place w...

Re: Very deep box frame
How would you produce mitred corners of the necessary accuracy for a deep box frame of that size and depth? It does not have to be very far out, for the frame to be noticably out of being flat. I'm not so sure that I would be willing to undertake such a job.

Re: Hedgehog method
Japanesse tissue is the best, it uses long grain fibres and the source of the fibres is from a particularly robust plant. Tissue derived from wood pulp is much too weak, the fibres are really short and the fibres are not generally distributed in sufficiently random directions. Also most wood pulp is...

Re: Hedgehog method
When I was open I used to buy packing tissue from a local wholesaler, it's used for packing antique, collctibles, items of lace and things like that. I used to buy most of my packaging related items from them and did so for years. They were older stock in non metric sizes and made me a offer I could...

No, most plain paper is not acid and lignen free, also strength is often important! It's the right combination of light, flexible and strong tissue that is apropriate for the job in hand. I get a customers wanting old postcards, old photos and book prints to frame. These are good for business, and i...

Re: Hedgehog method
I don't use anything to form the space for my bridges. (Un-nesessary fiddling about just slows me down). Just a double fold forming a flatted Z shape in my tissue hinges and applying the cooked wheat starch paste to the areas clear of the double fold, with a cotton bud, afterwards the cotton bud goe...
