Re: Yellow Pages FATG Advertising

The affinity scheme man from Yellow Pages popped by the Guild office to meet our new Membership Secretary this week. What I didn't know is that they charge different rates around the country, based on density of population OR that people who take paid-for lisings in Yellow Pages get priority results...

Re: workshop risk assessments

Thanks Dougie - I'll pass your request over to Annabelle on Art Business Today. I'm sure most of it is good old common sense and some will depend on the specifics of workshop layouts, equipment and so on. I assume most risks in a frame shop fall into these categories: lifting slipping falling and wo...

The Health and Safety Executive provide a handy template here http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/risk-assessment-and-policy-template.doc . This is just a comonsense walk-around-your-workshop-and-list-hazards approach. You might like to compare with http://www.business.scotland.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?ite...

Re: Calling London framers

Banana wine as yet untasted - must be due for drinking soon. It's supposed to taste like Chardonnay...If it works out then I'll know what to do with all the brown bananas the kids reject! Elderberry very fine - I 'cheated' and fortified with a little brandy so now it knocks your socks off Plum untas...

Re: Frame Art Expo in Rome

Got back from Rome at 12.30 last night :x (or this morning really) - good old easyjet managed to be 50 minutes late and then the Gatwick Go-slow... The show was excellent from my perspective, though it seemed many of the Italian framers stayed away. Still everyone I spoke to seemed to be happy with ...

Hi Igor

Welcome to the Forum

Do you know Ramex a.s http://www.ramex.sk/en/about-us? They're not members of the Fine Art Trade Guild, but I have met them at trade fairs in Italy. They supply mouldings as well as framing sundries.

Re: 'Tee' Hinges

It's an industry convention to always hinge the left on a portrait so the mount opens like a book or the top on a landscape. Conservators like framers to stick to the conventions so there's less risk of damage by someone opening a frame up in the future.

Pyramid has the license for Olympic posters - if you get Art Business Today the announcement is on page 17 of the latest issue (January). They retail through the official London 2012 stores @£7 each http://www.london2012.com/shop . http://www.pyramidinternational.com . I noticed the one on the Frame...

Re: papyrus / wood

Papyrus can be quite heavy - Vivian Kistler (Conservation Framing) recommends using a pass though (slit) hinge for the top with z hinges at the bottom if this is the case. You could use SCMC paste instead of wheat starch. We've just got copies of Conservation Framing in stock if you need one - its b...

Re: Framing an iced tile.

I think how much you will be able to do something about it depends if the cast was made of sugar flower paste or normal fondant icing. Sugar flower paste has gum traganth added to make the icing harden in time - fondant paste has glycerine added to keep it pliable. If fondant paste it may just keep ...

Lyn Hall made a fabulous mirrored frame for her winning entry in our framing award this year. October's Art Business Today magazine has a 'how she did it' article - the magazine will be out very soon. If you don't get ABT (and of course you should :D) then email me and I'll send you a pdf once we've...
