Stitching fabric
Hi, I have been given a Picasso printed scarf commissioned I think in the 50s for a Peace Conference against nuclear weapons. I have seen them auctioned for £2000 so I have to be sure I'm framing it properly. I plan to surface mount it with a window mount but not overlapping the work. So I need to w...

Glass for large piece
I am framing a 2500x600mm piece of art work. Is it realistic to frame this using normal 2mm glass? I've manage Ok up to about 1500mm but this additional size could be tricky I feel. Any comments/experience would be welcome.

Poster framing
Hi,
Ive been given some old collector's item posters to frame. They can't be board mounted because of value but they are quite badly creased. Ay ideas for flattening them - apart from the obvious way of ,well...flattening them! between two sheets of mount board prior to framing?
thanks

Glass cleaning
Hi Ive recently used truvue museum antireflective/uv glass to front a military memorabilia shadow box. Ive had problems getting the glass clean, in particular Ive got very small shiny points on the coated side of the glass. I don't think they are flumbs. Anyone experienced this? Is it damage to the ...

Re: Fixing military medals
Thanks Mark that's useful. Can you advise on medals with no ribbons or fixing points at all? I think I saw somewhere that you can get tiny clips to hold them?

Fixing military medals
Hi I'm doing a shadow box of military memorabilia and would welcome any advice on fixing medals to the backing matt. Some of them have pins which I guess I can use to fix them but there are a couple which are simple medals with no fixings or bars. The customer is happy for these to be glued on but I...

Re: Morso not cutting cleanly
Thanks for useful advice everyone! It's obviously not just a one off problem. Thanks especially for the photo and instructions roboframer- I,m going to try it. My blades are probably old as I bought the morso second hand and it was quite old. Just one more question- you mention ' gesso' coatings as ...

Morso not cutting cleanly
Hi I've had a morso for a few years now and have noticed that the quality of cut at the back edge of the moulding seems to have deteriorated. very jagged and with bits of the surface coating breaking off. I've recently had the blades sharpened with no improvement. I have spoken to another framer abo...

Framing photographs
I have been asked to frame some black and white photos for a restaurant. They want them unmounted and I am concerned about condensation with the work being in contact with the glass. Any advice on this would be welcome- do I need to insert a thin fillet of mount board under the rebate lip? I want to...

Re: Underpinning hard wood mouldings
Thanks everyone for very helpful replies-which all seemed to basically agree with each other. Ive just got my morso- previously using mitre saw followed by a trimmer so its quite ironic that David remarks that he uses the morso to trim up the hardwoods! - but I can see the logic of it-less wear and ...

Underpinning hard wood mouldings
Hello! I have an inmes IM3 underpinner which functions very well for most mouldings but i have difficulty getting a good join with hard wood mouldings. Has anyone out there any good ideas, tips for sorting out the problem? I'm using a morso mitre cutter and obviously hardwood v nails. Thanks regards...

Hi
I believe these are less expensive than the Morso machines. Do they do as good a job? I imagine you get what you pay for so there must be some limitations in relation to the morso?
Any comments welcome

Can anyne who uses one of these give it a good recommendation as joining high quality professional standard mitres. I am starting a framing business and want to make sure I buy adequate but not too costly equipment to start out with. I originally bought a Logan Pro joiner that I now realise lives up...

Re: mitre trimmers
Thanks STSTC,
I think that is very useful advice. I guess everything depends on whether it's possible to produce a professional product with the equipment available and you obviously managed with what you had when you started out.
