Re: Feedback on my website please (again)!

Thanks pramsay, that's really nice to hear :) As for the fault on chrome, the boyfriend/website guru says it may have something to do with old versions of the site being remembered somewhere so erasing browsing history and clicking refresh should fix it. That advice to me seems right up there with '...

Re: Feedback on my website please (again)!

The only possible thing I can think about is on your 'contact me', when you click on email, if it brought up a simple contact form in another nice looking frame instead of a standard outlook express box. You demand, I supply! Check out the contact bit again and see what you think. www.freelancefram...

Re: Feedback on my website please (again)!

I can see a penny farthing on JamesC's website but not on EmmaS's website? Am I missing something? Hi, well spotted! This is probably because the site appears differently on different size monitors. If you play around with the screen size it'll shuffle around and re-hang all the pictures and...

Re: Feedback on my website please (again)!

How are you going to get your page known? Thanks for the feedback. Phase two of my plan (phase one being the website) is to send out letters of introduction to local framers, possibly with business cards, sweets, cash, deeds to my soul, etc... Can I ask all framing business owners - how would you r...

So here is the new improved website version number two for your approval. http://www.freelanceframer.co.uk/ Any and all comments (good and bad) massively welcomed, in particular relating to ra...

What is this called?? Please Help!

Hi, ......so, you know sometimes on mounts, you see what looks like a hand drawn line a cm-ish around the aperture - it that just hand drawn on with a ruler and a pen or is there a special tool that does that?? And what is it called? (the line, not the tool, unless there is one). If my mad computer ...

Re: Feedback on my website please.

My initial thoughts were that you make/carve/ gild/ restore etc the ornate frames you see. If this was the case I'd be offering you a job! Thanks for the feedback - I am actually working with the head of frame conservation for the National Galleries of Scotland (on a voluntary basis for now at leas...

Re: Feedback on my website please.

Hi Adam, thanks for the comments but sorry you couldn't read the text..... my boyfriend/pet website designer would like to know what you're viewing it on to see if it's a problem he can correct! Thanks again to all for the comments, I've since changed a few more bits in 'services' due to your excell...

Re: Feedback on my website please.

Haha! Glass guillotine? Oops what an idiot - I meant the wall mounted cutty thingy. Wow I feel really professional now! I've changed it for now but might re-do that whole services bit to include more - I'm not sure those four measly bullet points do me justice.... Your other points are all really ex...

Feedback on my website please.

Hello all, here is the link to my lovely new website.... www.freelanceframer.co.uk ....and I'd really appreciate any feedback you can give. I'm not a complete framing novice but when it comes to marketing myself as a freelancer this is a new venture - and you lot are, after all, my target market! So...

Re: Best place to Advertise vacancies

Hi Dave, This is an old post now so hopefully you've found someone but I thought I'd chip in anyway. I was recently a framer looking for work with no idea where to find vacancies advertised - makes sense if you guys don't even know where to post them either! I trawled gumtree which I think is pretty...

Re: Running out of options

I've heard of this being done with pieces of wood - a groove is cut down the length wide enough for the glass, picture (in this case record), glass sandwich and then it's sort of slid in (kind of like how you sometimes see with menus in cafes held in little wood holders if you know what I mean). It ...

Re: What will the GCF qualification get me?

Hi, I know this thread died a long time ago so perhaps no one will see this but I just had to say something and I thought starting a whole new topic would be a little self indulgent... so to whoever gave me advice and encouragement throughout this discussion I wanted to say thanks because I GOT A JO...

Re: web sites

On a note related to this topic, though slightly deviating from the questions of the original post (for which I apologise) I'd like to mention on behalf of my other-half that if any one needs a website designing or building or both, he is at present trying to get together a portfolio of work to kick...

Re: What will the GCF qualification get me?

Nope, I'm still here...listening attentively...taking notes... I'm just interested in the post two before this, was that supposed to say 'never interview a graduate'?! Because if that's the case, I'm in trouble! I would never have pushed my degree as I don't think it's necessarily relevant to the tr...

Re: What will the GCF qualification get me?

Ok, well as it seems to be wrapping up I'll say a final thanks to everyone for their advice and encouragement... you guys are so lovely and helpful, I hope I can find framers as willing to take pity on a young enthusiast here in Edinburgh! I'm sure after a little more training I'll come up with lots...

Re: What will the GCF qualification get me?

Oh dear, my first topic and I seem to have started some sort of GCF vs non-GCF gang war! Not my intention, though it's been very interesting to follow. Can I just for a sec bring it back to the sentiments of my original question though and ask all the GCFs posting whether they gained their GCF quali...

Re: What will the GCF qualification get me?

Thank you, all, so much for your advice. It's nice to know the GCF is not essential in getting a job, hopefully I can gain a bit more experience and take it in my own time, I've not been doing this long and though the framers I trained under were excellent there are a few things on the exam that I'v...
