Thanks Robo,
Hadn't noticed the Silki range as it was in the basics range section and not in the conservation area. Suppose if its away from the artwork it doesn't matter.
I'd have to buy the tapes etc in as I don't keep or use coloured boards so don't have the waste to make my own.

sourcing fabric mountboard
I am starting to explore different mount options to enhance works (not washes and lines yet though) and I'm looking to find a fabric mountboard in a white colour. Preferably like a silk look rather than the bobbly linen effect. I have looked at Arqadia, Colourmount and Bainbridge but can't seem to f...

Re: How to charge for displaying customers artwork
I would suggest a commission rate of 30%. I don't think you an charge the 50% rate. Most galleries I deal with are at 40% but then they are also marketing the artists' work, arranging exhibitions, arranging forward exhibitions at other established galleries etc. I think if you are only hanging and c...

Re: A challenge
I had one original in which had cellotape, parcel tape and masking tape.
Cellotape held the window mount to the under mount, masking tape was to sharpen the image edge and the parcel tape held the original to the window mount!

Re: Distancing glass from mounted poster
Yes - I use cut strips of mountboard from the waste. You get ready made thicknesses too (1.4, 1.5, 2.0 micron etc) or as stcstc says, stick together for added thickness.
Just make sure you do them wide enough to cover any gap you allow for the glass. I usually cut my strips around 6-7mm wide.

Re: Rigid vs Semi-rigid tabs
I use the rigid points. And yes can be a PITA if you have to change something but I find they do give a tighter finish against the mount, which on larger frames is a plus point I think. As stcstc says, I put a couple in each corner and check the front before carrying on, or sometimes use a few multi...

The COSHH Data sheets might be able to give you some information or write direct to the manufacturer of the products if unsure.

Re: Glass cutting help needed
I use a hand cutter with oil reservoir. The last time I ordered glass I got it from a different supplier as it was cheaper (as you do). However, it was terrible to cut, more splinters, didn't break clean etc. I thought I needed a new cutter but when I got through the new supply of glass and got onto...

Renault 12TL - Silver - BDK737L Cost £150...it was a money pit. Soon learnt about how to fix practically everything on a car. Well you could in those days of pre-electrics!
Really comfy car though with wide seats and arm rests

Yes, I'll be using water based paints so frog tape seems the way to go. A good tip with the coat of clear water first...will remember that.

Re: Matt Wax finish??
Thanks Prospero, framemaker, I was just reading up on the polyvine dead flat varnish, and its possible defects over dark paints, ie misting up etc. I think I will try the artists matt varnish and see how that goes. If that fails, I have my current method to fall back on. Also, any tips for masking, ...

Re: Matt Wax finish??
Thanks Guys, Yes I came across Artist's Matt Varnish last night and have ordered some to try out. After reading around the net, it seems there isn't any such thing as a matt wax :head: I'm now wondering if an oil would be better for the natural part of the wood, that will protect it but not be shiny...
