Re: The Spring Fair
I read this post with interest as we are going again this year. Last year we were amazed that despite the snow and dire travel news, we were really busy. There were lots of framers around throughout the week and we were glad we’d attended. Of course we’re hoping for slightly better weather this year...

Re: Pricing again
Waste is something that most manufacturers have to deal with. It is a cost of manufacturing and businesses need to have systems to deal with it. Firstly it is necessary to look at what percentage of your material cost is lost to wastage. For instance what is the most common size (in area) picture fr...

Re: Pricing according to perceived value
Perceived value does reflect on the type of frame, mount, the way you finish the back of the frame etc, but it is so much more than that. As Mary says there are a lot of things that go into creating an impression of value to the customer. Firstly: what are the first impressions of your business; in ...

New Baby!
For all those who were wishing us luck at the Framers Forum Live... We are both doing well and looking fo...

A Christmas marketing idea
I was going through some old articles I used to write for my local publication (in my former life as a framer) and thought this one is appropriate for this time of year. If anyone publishes articles for their local papers or other magazines, this may offer ideas on something to write leading up to C...

Re: FRAMERS FORUM LIVE EVENT - Well done !
Ditto to all the earlier posts! We have just got back home to Bristol. It was an excellent event, and Gilly and I were particularly glad to have stayed for the evening as well as it was great to catch up over a beer as well - far less rushed than during the day. The food was delicious too!! Good to ...

Re: 2012 Price check ? what are people charging now?
Dear Jam A short question with a long answer! Whilst it is relatively easy to work out the cost of the materials involved, that £12 is only a very small proportion of the actual cost of making the frame. What also needs to be included are all the running costs of operating your business - rent, util...

Re: Double Mitre Saw
I had a Brevetti double mitre saw. The fully automatic one, I can't remember the series. It was quite a good saw, although they do need to be fitted with kanefusa blades to cut really well. You will definately get a better, more consistent cut than using a guilotine and they are much easier to use d...
