Re: Large print mounting (on kappa board or similar)
I'd second that - drymount it through a roller. As Justintime says the easiest way is to find a signwriter as they typically have large rollers, we've now bought our own for this purpose as signwriters round here don't have the attention to details that you'll have as a framer. Completely forget abo...

Re: insurance
Do you mean accidental damage or destroyed through fire or break in? Our insurance doesn't cover accidental damage as it's possible to mitigate against this - eg. proper training, workshop rules of not having liquids near work etc. According to our broker no insurers will cover against accidental da...

Re: Rose and Hollis courier?
Our dx guy is brilliant. We're not roadside, it's a good 50yd walk to the door, but he'll carry 30 sheets of mountboard and 2 big packages of moulding in one go. Never had anything late or damaged from them.

John Jones
I heard yesterday that John Jones are ceasing to trade in the middle of February. Anyone else heard this? I can't find anything online about it beyond a forum post.
A bit surprising though. Surely they're not feeling the squeeze?

Re: Fletcher FSC, Bambi compressor & cash register for sale
I've messaged you Buster, but here's my reply for all to see.. I use 2 other bambi's now. The one we're selling is good but we've outgrown it. It can't run an airline (for blowing out frames etc) as it's just too much for it, and it can't really do multiple tools at once. But it really depends of th...

Hi Dan Just in case you're after anything else: We're selling our FSC Fletcher substrate cutter on ebay http://ebay.us/eDZJ0q And there's a Bambi compressor (this one is no good for every day use, best for an occasional user so probably not suited to pro framers) http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53...

Re: Separating business for VAT
I posed this question to my accountant a while back. His answer was that, while we could, he doesn't recommend it simply down to it confusing matters. The invoices between the two companies, the two sets of accounts to be made up, the two different invoices that go out, two filing systems are all a ...

Re: Wessex Final Straw
I stopped dealing with Wessex a few years ago. I was a regular customer but they made it impossible for me to continue with them. :head: Its just my personal dealings with them - as I know full well from running a business, some customers just don't quite end up getting the service you want them to ...

Re: Fire proof framing
A couple of thoughts spring to mind. First is mentioned above, but it's whether they need to be fire resistant to protect the work or simply not be fuel for the fire. If it's the first then they also need to be waterproof for the gallons of water sprayed in in the event of a fire. A client of ours h...

The largest frame
Ok, not really a normal picture frame - there's no picture in it for a start. But pretty big nonetheless. I don't think it would fit through our door. https://www.dezeen.com/2018/01/11/controversial-dubai-frame-opens-amid-claims-copyright-infringement-fernando-donis/ Amazing thing though, and nice t...

Re: Large frame with narrow moulding.
Hi folks, Took me a while to get to the exhibition, but here's a pic of the finished frame IMG_20180109_155449_644.jpg The moulding is A140 ash painted white, 3mm acrylic glazing, 12mm spacer. There is a narrow sub frame at the back screwed into the frame. It took some careful assembly but it's pret...

Thanks chaps, much obliged. It's good to be able to say with confidence that its not available. I'll get a few sensible looking samples in for it.

Anyone recognise this moulding?
Hi folks,
As the title suggests really. I've been given some photos of a moulding to either match or get a similar feel to.
I'm not sure of the size, we're guessing about 80mm wide.
Many thanks as always

whiting and RSG
Hi folks, We're just making some attempts to mix gesso with rsg and whiting that I received through buying retiring framers stock. They're unmarked in terms of supplier and I'm not sure how old they are. My questions so far.. Can rsg in granule form go off? Are different products of greater or lesse...

Re: Large frame with narrow moulding.
The work has been delivered now and is a mere 1.6 x 1.5m. Small mercies and all that. As I have a little time on it I'm going to experiment. If it doesn't work then I've still got pretty long lengths of moulding to use elsewhere. Call me crazy, but I'm going to try A140 ash -underpinned and cross pi...

Large frame with narrow moulding.
Hi folks, I've been asked to frame a drawing that measures around 1.8 x 1.5m. Not normally a problem - we've framed a lot bigger in the past. However the request is for 'as narrow a moulding as is humanly possible'. And for as little money as possible. Client is a trusted regular and is basically as...

Re: Float mounting very large pictures
I don't really understand the problem. We float mount any size, it just needs more hinges  The largest we've floated is 2.5m x 1.7m works on paper. Each one had something like 40 pass through hinges. We have a jig set up which is basically slots cut in mountboard at regular intervals, and we c...

Re: Framiac versus Estlite?
I've not used Estlite, but I'd suggest thinking about i-framer as well, and giving each of them a trial run - it's the only way you'll really know which is for you.
