Re: Final finish for hand painted frames..
Can't really say as I've only used the decorators varnish. I've attached the specs sheets and links to the product pages. http://www.polyvine.com/index.php/en/?option=com_content&view=article&id=97 http://www.polyvine.com/index.php/en/?option=com_content&view=article&id=100 decorator...

Re: Final finish for hand painted frames..
Out of interest which Polyvine varnish did you order? I've been using the dead flat decorators varnish and I know that Mark uses the wax finish varnish. The dead flat finish is not truly dead flat, say like the F&B estate emulsion, but it is very nice indeed. Both photos are of a dead flat decor...

Re: methods to hang this type of frame to sit flush on wall?
I'm sure DaveJ is absolutely right in saying these frames are not good quality but I do agree that using a pilot hole could solve the problem. Is this a one off job? You say your mdf back board is 13mm thick, do you have some D-rings and cord or wire? 13mm thick is plenty to attach some D-rings dire...

Re: Framing a delicate painted leaf
Welcome to the forum :D How has the customer's other leaf been mounted, can you see any clear straps or thread etc. I take it the leaf is real and not artificial? A photo would be good to see. When you say the other leaf is attached to a piece of black board, do you mean a piece of board a bit small...

Re: Final finish for hand painted frames..
If I had to repair/retouch a painted and waxed frame I would remove the wax with white spirit first, touch up with paint and then re-wax the frame. For most of my painted frames I now use Polyvine Dead Matt acrylic varnish as a final coat. If I had to retouch one of these I would just retouch with p...

Re: Trimming down a print
A quick google search and I can see Fiona Strickland is a watercolour artist so the print will be a reproduction and won’t have a plate mark which you get from an original hand pulled print. Interestingly, here’s a photo of the original watercolour from an RHS exhibition showing how it has been fram...

This company has a £5 minimum spend but as they are retail you will pay more for the product. https://www.ukpictureframingsupplies.co.uk/picture-plates--mirror-plates-33-c.asp https://www.ukpictureframingsupplies.co.uk/countersunk-wood-screws-pozi---golden-finish-42-c.asp You could also look in DIY ...

Re: Large Poster - in sections...
Hmmmm - I've quoted her £150 each, using Arqadia 452000167. All items spaced & 'floating' on foamboard. She things it's waaaaaayyyyy over her budget. Am I completely off course with that pricing? :? :sweating: I would say your price is fair and I would say the same if the art work was in one pi...

Re: Large Poster - in sections...
If you are going to do it with self adhesive board, then it's probably wise to only fold back a narrow strip of the release paper next to the adjoining section already stuck down to prevent the self adhesive from grabbing hold of the print section until you are ready and then pulling rest of the re...

Re: Large Poster - in sections...
Either sticking the mounted panels directly to the wall or on a black painted substrate I think looks good. I think it's better to emphasise the gaps.

Re: Large Poster - in sections...
Don't know what mounting equipment you have but this could be done by hand. Don't bother trying to mount everything in one go as it were and I don't think a multi aperture window mount would work either mate  Each section is small enough to mount by hand with a hand brayer roller. I'd use som...

Re: best methods of removing dust from glass
Obviously when using regid tabs there is no going back Yes there is, with one of these ! Think I'm right in assuming you glue your foamboard spacers to the frame rebate to hold in the glass, so I would try assembling your frame the correct way up. Clean your glass and glue in your spacers and put t...

How about one of those springy thingy things?
Could easily adapt or make your own to suit the size and thickness of the plaque and paint the ends black so they don't show against the wood?

Re: Which backing board?
Gummed tape sticks very well indeed to Nubord which is covered in Kraft paper. I know it doesn't stick too well to ArtBak Aqua board but not sure about the standard ArtBak but I think it should stick? Cutting mdf with a Stanley knife probably won't kill you but with a power saw it might... it's the ...

Re: Which backing board?
I use NuBord from Wessex which is a dense grey board, 2.3mm and lined both sides with Kraft paper, it is not fluted like ArtBak. You are quite right about these boards getting damaged when removing tape compared to mdf, but If you do have to remove the board once taped (gummed tape that is) to deal ...
