Re: Bench end guillotine...

I haven't posted on here for a few years now.... I bought mine donkeys years ago from Ashworth & Thompson. Fits on the edge of a four foot square bench. Brilliant at cutting boards and has never needed sharpening. Health and Safety would have a coronary. I always took great care to respect it 10...

Re: Nick out of moulding!

You will find that two small cuts with a Stanley Knife at the base of the moulding about 1.5mm apart will do the trick. Ideal for mouldings like the one in the pic with gesso on the back edge. Try a few experiments with off cuts to get it right. It works....! Good too if you make sure there is no cl...

Re: A massive THANK YOU to Ashworth & Thompson

Ashworth & Thompson were one of four framing suppliers when I started my business in the early 70's, until a few years ago when I retired. In all that time I never had an issue with them at all. Perfect service over all those years. Glad to hear nothing has changed.

Re: How to mitre aluminium wrapped wood moulding

I remember when these were first brought out......real pain then and I guess they still are. Only had to look at a length and it would mark and nowadays looks so dated. At the time they were a novel metal finish for the framer before Neilsen's and others existed. TCT saw blades will do the job but n...

Re: 'Home Working' - a nagging doubt ...

Afternoon all Not been on here for a while and looked back at a post I made on this thread exactly five years ago. Closed the gallery after 37 years and started working from home. Back in the Spring that time came to an end too and bar the odd customer I dont frame anymore....42 years ....holy moly....

Re: new online mat cutting calculator

Couldn't figure it either Robo. I have always bottom weighted for landscape, more so for portrait. With panoramic I always lengthened the ends to accentuate the shape...simple as that. The deeper base stems from after Victorian times when pictures with equal all round matts were sometimes hung high ...

Re: Too many twits :)

Thanks for that Robo Been winding up the gallery over the past twelve months and re-organizing my lifestyle. There does come a time when we all have to take a change of direction. Not quite reached that age when we are supposed to (retire). Far too much energy and enthusiasum to potter in the garden...

Re: 'Home Working' - a nagging doubt ...

Dear All Well, the time had to come sometime... After owning a gallery/framers for about 37 years I,ve had the last big picture sale. Prices really had to be slashed in order to clear the lot in time. Everybody loves a bargain and don't they show their true nature. Sold off all the shop fittings and...
