Please do come back to me with any other questions. Thanks. Hi James - I've sent you a text message this morning regarding your enqu...

Re: Mount Cutting - Keencut Ultimat Gold
Update on the above: Varying border width from start of cut to end of cut - was the guide bar out of alignment with the cutter bar. Was surprised how wonky I've had to make the guide bar look to the eye, for it to be parallel when it's tightened off to use… :o Cutter block and bearings A'ok. I think...

Re: Mount Cutting - Keencut Ultimat Gold
Thanks both. Definitely not a dull blade - brand spanking new when I set it up this time. Prospero - I have instructions on adjusting the cutter block - but checked this yesterday and felt that there wasn't any play. I'll definitely look at the set up of the guide bar and cutter bar, and check out m...

Mount Cutting - Keencut Ultimat Gold
Returning to framing after a bit of a break and have just set up my Ultimat Gold (by the book), but am having some problems that I can't seem to resolve on my bevel cuts - Hooking I'm using Keencut TechD 012 blades Hooking is really perplexing me as it's at the start of cut - but measures the border...

Why is front of frame fine, but side/rear isn't?
I've got a problem that I've been trying to resolve for ages now, but nothing I try seems to work. I've gone through a lot of mouldings and I'm really at my wits end. When I join frames I find that the front looks fine, but (the rear of) the side profile is never as tight as I would like. A deep squ...

Re: Packaging for Shipping/Delivery
Thanks for your reply. Where do you buy your acrylic glazing from? It seems to be a lot more expensive than glass. I think this might make it prohibitive for what we had in mind unfortunately. We're already up to about £25 for packaging and delivery alone, which for a low value non-conservation prin...

Packaging for Shipping/Delivery
Hi, I'm doing some investigation into the best and most cost effective way of shipping large framed prints (up to 30 x 40 inches). I've found a possible option: http://www.packaframe.co.uk/page2.html but the problem is that it's too expensive in relation to the value of the items I'd be shipping (an...

Re: Cooking Wheat Starch Paste
Aahhh! Thank you. Sorry to be such an unnecessary pain. I missed that extra link. That will teach me to not read Forum replies when I should be concentrating on the (current) day job.
Thanks again. I'll try out the method and post how I get on.
Cheers - Robyn

Re: Cooking Wheat Starch Paste
Thank you both for your advise. I've had success with the microwave method :D . I also think if I'd followed my instincts, as David illustrated and cooked it for less time, I would have got there too. I used the paste on a test piece (A6 postcard) and the kozo paper has adhered well, but on the fron...

Cooking Wheat Starch Paste
Hi Everyone, I'm after some step by step instructions on how to 'cook' wheat starch paste. I just had my first attempt and I'm pretty sure that it can be classed as a disaster. I'm using the following: Japanese Shoufu Paste Dionised Water Gas Hob Saucepan (with about 1 inch of water) Glass Bowl (sat...

Re: Bumpers & Tapes
Thanks Roboframer. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. You've given me a few things to try for the bumper problem, to see if I can rectify the issues. In regards to the tape, I had reached the same conclusion as you - it should do what is says on the box. I've tried the burnishing bone al...

Bumpers & Tapes
Hi, Just two questions that I hope some of you may be able to with. Bumpers: I'm currently using Clear Dome Bumpers (3.8mm) on the backs of frames. Unfortunately they don't seem to want to stay stuck! They leave the workshop staying put, then when the frame is hung on the wall they seem to move abou...

Re: Pricing for mirrors?
You have both provided me with some very good advice. Some I had considered and some that I hadn't. Personally I'm not adverse to the odd bevelled mirror, but you are both right in that using Silvered Float will definitely assist in keeping my costs down. Thanks so much for taking the time to respon...

Re: Need programme for planning multi-aperture mounts
Hi Everyone, Thanks for your replies. Apologies for not following up on this thread but the job I was working on got postponed, so the need to resolve the problem disappeared. Stcstc - good tip on the Draw mode in Excel. The Crofter - wow! That Sketchup sure looks like fun. Have checked out the tuto...

Pricing for mirrors?
Thinking of adding mirrors as an extra form of revenue but am not sure what sort of markup is normal. Any advice?
