Re: Why is good framing so important?
When an artist looks at a picture the first thing they see is the art. When a framer looks at a picture the first thing they look at is the framing. When a customer looks at a picture they see the overall decor. Commercially all these things need to come together to increase the possibility of a sal...

Re: iPad apps
The other product I came across was from Frame On. The app is free but it requires Filemaker v11 which costs about £28. There is a free Filemaker v12 but the author has not converted his app to be compatible. So at the moment this app doesn't appear to be going anywhere (IMO). I have now updated th...

Re: Why aren't my web visitors calling me?!?
Perhaps you should offer an incentive on your home page. Maybe: 20% off first order; buy one frame get the next 1/2 price; Free 6x4 photo frame with first order, etc. If your web site is your shop window then you should realy do what shops do to get people through the door in the way of incentives. ...

She was more concerned that the dust extractor for my saw ( which is not a requirement to have) had not been inspected by a specialist in the last 18 months. (I just offered to cease using it!) Probably because finely divided dust particles are explosive so the potential for harm from a dust extrac...

Re: Yellow Pages FATG Advertising
The only customer I have had that I definitely know came via yellow pages was a holiday home owner who was down to get ready for the season and had knocked a picture off the wall. Yellow pages was all they had available to find someone to reframe it. I do have an entry on yell.com and Thompson local...

I use the Lion ones. Can't fault them. The morso f is fine for deep rebates but not in hard woods.

Re: Van or Car?
I drive a VW Caddy Maxi Life. This has two rows of seats in the back. You can take the back row out and fold the second row forward so it becomes a van. We can take the family and grandchildren out, move pictures etc. and put the mountain bikes in the back. The interior is fitted out like a car rath...

The timber will be kiln dried to a moisture content that is averaged for the condition under which it is going to be used so timber specified for furniture use would be ok for framing work. However the timber will dry out or take on moisture according to local variation - central heating, air condit...

Re: Cracks 'n twists
Are you planning on converting the timber yourself? Have a look on Wikipedia about different methods of conversion particularly rift sawn and quarter sawn boards so you know what to specify if you are buying in ready cut timber. It is best to rack up the timber once bought to allow it to normalise t...

Re: ICC PROFILES
If you want the profiles to be available in photoshop: users/your username/library/ColorSync/profiles/yourprofile.icc
If you put them in the global ColorSync library on the hard disk then they won't be available when you log on as a user.
Hope this helps

Re: Printing and framers
bigger than a3 gets very expensive as a scanner, better off setting up a studio type space to photograph them in I use photo stitching software: PTgui. You can use a small scanner to create the image in sections and then stitch them together on the computer. Save scanned images as TIFF files, set t...

Is it possible to move various links on the board appart more? Re: 'D' ring position
What I have found: The 1.6/1.7m to picture centre looks good. My picture rails are at 2m so this means top edge of pictures are at about 100mm below rail. All the pictures need to be hung with top edges at same height - irrespective of size. Picture rail hooks push the hanging away from the wall by ...

'D' ring position
I am restoring the picture rails in my 1930's bungalow that were ripped out before we moved in. When positioning the D rings and measuring wire length to hang the pictures from the rails it is easy to do by trial and error. However if it was for a customer I would be interested to know if there is a...
