I know there are a number of places where a Morso needs oiling, but does anyone know where exactly and which lubricant to use?
thx

large format printing
Hi all, I need a digital file printed onto an uncoated (or at any rate, matt) paper, off white/ivory sort of colour, 70cm x 80cm. My usual guy only has brilliant white paper for large format printing, and I've had no luck googling it. Does anyone here offer this service? Know someone who does? Cheer...

Re: Painting Pine Black
Can I ask a Plaka question? I've been using black plaka on gesso and have found that it will quickly buff to a lovely deep inky black using just a yellow duster. I follow up with some Renaissance wax, but to be honest this is just because I think it could use the extra protection, it doesn't add muc...

Re: float mounting
I've just got myself some Japanese hinging paper and wheat starch, but have a quick query. I read that you need to put a blotter on top of the hinge once it's in situ, then a weight on top of the blotter. Does the blotter have to be anything special, or will regular blotting paper do it, or even som...

Re: Heavily Coated Mouldings- Problems
Aside from the Confetti range, are there any other reliable ranges that can be recommended? Speaking for myself, it's the matt spray finished blacks and whites that I'm keen to source.Roboframer wrote:Or find the same/similar with thinner and/or better quality coatings and maybe better quality wood too.

Re: Heavily Coated Mouldings- Problems
Will be very interested to see if anyone else has any bright ideas on this. Personally, I've given up trying to find a fix for this problem. Easy to say don't use these mouldings if they chip, but I find a lot of punters want those nice matt black / white frames they've seen. So my only solution is ...

Re: routed sight and back edge standard ripple
Hi Geoff,
are you using a hand-held router + jigs / router table or a fixed router (don't know what the jargon is for this - I mean one that's built like a drill press)?
Best,
David

Re: Frame Restoration
Jan Pike does a one day course which she tags on to her 3 day gilding course. I did it this summer, very impressed. A day isn't very much and it's pretty much a taster, but a good place to start perhaps. She's also very helpful after the course and doesn't lose interest once the training is done and...

scam?
Received the following email enquiry and my strong instinct is that it's a scam. What do you think? Hi Shop Owner, I however contact several companies some time ago regarding some inquiry on Picture Frames but all effort proved futile though.I am glad to contact your company in other to see if you c...

Re: float mounting
Just tried letting the tape absorb the moisture before applying and it works a charm.
Now, does anyone have any tips on getting the artwork to line up straight on the mountcard when float mounting?
thanks!

Thx again

float mounting
So, I've never float mounted artwork  I understand what needs doing and it's all fine, except that I find that where the tape (archival gum tape is what I've tried so far) is attached to the rear of the paper (ie. the artwork) it shows from the front. I guess it's to do with the added moisture...

Re: Gilding question
Yes, I noticed the masking. Is there a recommended tape for this? I just tried a bit with some regular masking tape it took the gilding off.
Thanks heaps

Re: Gilding question
thanks for the links
I'm still not clear on what to do about the edge where gold meets ungilded surface. Is it best to try to mask the ungilded bit with tape, gild then remove tape? Or can any superfluous gold around the edge simply be painted over?
Any advice gratefully received!
Thanks again

Gilding question
One for the gilders... I need to gild just a particular detail on a frame which otherwise will have a painted finish. First question is can it be water gilded or will I have to oil gild? If I can water gild a detail, do I gesso the whole frame or can I get away with just gessoing the detail to be gi...
