Re: Large, float mounted watercolour for Conservatory

Thanks for the responses, I'll have another word with the customer again and see if it's one of the fancy-pants conservatories with temperature control etc, but I'm sure the temperature will fluctuate wildly regardless.. Thanks for the info Robo, and glad to hear that you pictured at home are stayin...

Large, float mounted watercolour for Conservatory

Hello all, Had a phone call from a client after giving an estimate for a large (1100x1500) watercolour to be float mounted and framed. Turns out it is to be hung in a conservatory. :Slap: Apart from UV glazing to try to reduce the fading, is there any way to try mitigate the temp/humidity fluctuatio...

Re: Handfinishing course with a difference

I'm really tempted. Last one was great fun, might be better (warmer!) camping in April too.

Anyone going I highly recommend reading through Marks posts and having a go at some of the finishes before you come. It'll help you take in more when your there cos there's plenty of info to digest!

Re: Is my daler chart current?

Hello all, Thank you for all the replies. My problem seems to be occurring much less now. I assume that I was receiving either odd/discontinued/changed boards but the problem has seemed to clear itself up. I think it is more likely an issue supplier side than with the production as the variety in co...

Is my daler chart current?

Hello all, just a quick one. If somebody has a new daler mountchart, what is the date on it? (can be found on the bottom left of the 'index' on the back). I'm having a nightmare with mountbards that i have in stock being a different color to the color on the chart. Names and codes are the same, so w...

Re: Yet Another Computer problem

SSD's are far and away better than HDD's if you can afford them!! they dont have moving parts so are much less likely to break, they read+write faster and fragmentation isnt an issue. If you need storage for backing up files, a good internet connection and a 'cloud' (online storage) may be the safes...

Re: How to charge for displaying customers artwork

I wholly agree with the comments above. Be very careful of quality and that the style of work is suitable for your customers. Artists frames are generally awful, when shows hang in the gallery i work for you would be amazed at how badly artists will display their own work. 1k+ paintings in ikea fram...

Re: Glass cutting help needed

I use my ears the most when cutting glass. It seems to be best when it sounds like velcro being pulled apart. Constant speed and pressure are good of course. Our mirror manufacturer also recommended that we tap the scored line with the back of the metal cutter and snap the glass with a short sharp m...

shiny spots on black mouldings

Hello all, I presume others also suffer from shiny spots where black, factory finished mouldings(eg RH1342 or WSXa019) have been scuffed in transit or storage. I've not yet managed to find any way at all off fixing or masking the more glossy areas. Anyone got any tips? we sell it because cutomers li...

Re: 3D Printing

hmm, thats a good idea Mark. Theres a guy down the road that does spark erosion too.. Does anyone know of a source of 3D CAD models for decorations? Would only be used as a tester, not commercially. I could make one but its a reasonably complex model and my cad skills are a little rusty (and i'm laz...

Re: 3D Printing

Hi there, Ive looked into this tech in regards to framing too. It does look promising for small decorations etc but would be far too expensive to produce something large like a whole frame. There are other Rapid prototying methods that are cheaper but still you'd be looking at (at a guess) £1/gram o...

could it be that the bar that the cutter runs on is flexing upwards slightly as the blade is inserted? my only other suggestion would be to start the cut early, inserting the blade whilst its moving..

Thank you everyone for your input. I missed the post from roboframer but it seems like a great method for getting the result we're aiming for. I'll search harder next time!!! I'll have a little discussion with the customer later on today as I need to contact him about another completed framing job. ...

Football Programes

Hello all, I have a customer who would like about half dozen football programmes framing. Does anyone have any more interesting ideas then simply window or float mounting? He's quite adventurous in his framing and would spend the money on the right frame, however they're quite valuable so I need to ...
