Re: Framing Workshop Manager needed

I am looking for temp work in a framing shop - not good to spend rands with this exchange rate. I have a framing business in Knysna SA, have a Fine Arts Degree, am passionate about art, very creative and excellent at my job. (Right through from the initial consultation to the hanging of the artwork)...

Re: Hello from North London

Hi Richard - I have a Fine Arts degree specialised in Oil painting, however that was a long time ago and work kept me away from the easel. I also do gold leafing and paint whatever I can whenever I can find a good enough excuse. I am temporarily in London and would love to learn more about effects a...

Re: Framing without glass

Thank you everyone for your valuable comments. I will give her a price on the museum glass (at least that's what I call it.) I have never had a customer who is willing to pay the cost (exchange rates for us make it prohibitive) perhaps this will be the exception - I hope so otherwise I may lose the ...

Re: Mouldy embroidery

Shew thank you everyone. This is a holiday keepsake not hugely valuable. The mould is also very new so I am wishing that a quick wash - as you say not using woolite - may work. Any other suggestions? I don't think the item merits conservation method and costs, but as the item came from Vietnam she c...

Mouldy embroidery

My client brought an embroidery in which is full of (new) mould. She bought it in Vietnam, it's embroidered with cotton using long loose stitches and is quite thick in places. The mould has only been there a month or so - I have dried the cloth and brushed off what I can. I now want to sprinkle anti...

Framing without glass

My Client has A) an etching and B) a print that she insists she wants reframed with mounts and without glass. The etching looks a little valuable as the previous framer backed it with acid free board and the print is an historical photo which is probably very hard to replace. What should I do ? I ca...

GOLD LEAF

Does anyone have the trade names for the products used in gold leafing and ageing ..... We can get gold leaf here in SA, but also need the ageing "varnish" and the other product which you apply in a cloth, it's not liquid. If I knew what to call them i could search for a supplier here ....

framing valuable cloth

I need to box frame a fragile piece of african woven cloth by "hanging " it onto a board. I am concerned that if I sew it onto the board at the top only the stitches will pull holes in the cloth. Here in SA we use a tapestry glue which dries and stays sticky almost like table tack which is...

Framing Football Shirts

I know there are various methods of framing football shirts, does anyone have step by step pictures ? If I have made a fomecore inner for the shirt to keep the shape, how do I attach that, once it is inside the shirt, to the back mount board?
