How to mount and frame small family locket in openable frame

Hi Gurus, I've been asked to mount a family locket measuring 3.5 cm wide x 4.0cm tall, depicting a soldier in uniform, circa WW1, on one side and young child on the other within a (Lion 034) moulding and with 3cm wide mountboard margins (CM310 -Beige) all round. The client wants to be able to open ...

Template for listing list of faults prior to accepting work

Hi all, I have been asked if I would clean and replace age related damage on an older (framed) print, however, as I want to be able to list all anomalies and get the client's approval to proceed before I start any significant work, I want to create a client acceptance list. I would like to achieve t...

What is the best medium to use for a very deep box frame?

I have been asked to frame a vase complete with flowers, and have agreed the mount board colours and general arrangement which has the approval of the client. It involves creating a box frame 25cm deep, 50 cm wide and 56 cm tall. The vase and flowers weigh no more than 500 Grams. I have identified t...

Re: woodworm in a new frame

Hi, I had a similar incdent last month when a customer contacted me about worm holes in one of the five different commissions that I had framed for him. On inspecting the moulding, it was quite clearly woodworm and I immediately checked my moulding stock which confirmed it was only this one moulding...

Tensioning double layered silk

A client has four large Samuri Warrior paintings (approx 27.5 x 84.5cm respectively) on double layered silk and previously mounted in four double mount arrangements (37.5 x 95.0cm each) but has asked if it is possible to do anything about the level of creasing that is still evident on the visible ma...

Re: Best tool for cutting smaller circular or oval glass

Thanks,

I have had a few trial runs and have managed to get a crude type of circle but there is a point when my wrist can't rotate enough to keep the cutting wheel at the optimum angle to make the score.
Has anyone used Lion's oval glass cutter and have a view on it's performance?

Curing warped prints

A client has just brought in a, 54.0 x 44.5cm, print that was attached to the rear mount by a single length of masking tape along the top! The result is that the paper has now warped and the customer wants me to fix it. I reassured her that I would have a look and try to establish what has caused th...

Best tool for cutting smaller circular or oval glass

I have been asked to replace two small sections of glass, one 100mm diameter and the other, oval section, measuring 210 x 262mm. What tool or technique do other members use that would cut an accurate line ( I can score and break wavy lines but there is a knack - which I haven't got, to cutting an ac...

Transfering Software from Desktop onto Laptop computer

John, I spoke with you many months ago asking if it was possible to copy the Estlite software pricing programme that I had previously purchased from you for use on my Desktop computor on to my new Laptop computor so that I could take and use it in my workshop. After many unsucessful attempts I took ...

unresolved query

Hi John, I received an automated closure message [from you dated 26 Dec 2009] saying that my earlier query had been addressed by an Administrator and that the issue had been resolved however I have no record of such a closure. Earlier in the year, I attempted to ask if any other framer could help me...

Re: Hand paint finishes on mouldings

Hi Prospero, I've forwarded 5 JPEGs of the mouldings to John in the hope he will forward them to you. The first couple are of Lion Moulding 1176 but I'm not sure of the manufacturer of the speckled gold with dark brown outside edge. If you can lay your hands on some I would be keen to buy them off y...

Re: Hand paint finnishes on mouldings

Thanks Prospero, I had considered using spray paints but the shades of blue required were only achieved by mixing two colours together. I wasn't sure if any tape spec would have the edge grip qualities without lifting some of the paint bebeathy (I left the paint two days to dry off but still get sli...

Hand paint finnishes on mouldings

I was asked recently for another commission using a two tone blue moulding that the cutomer particularly wanted to repeat. As the moulding had been withdrawn I bought plain wood moulding and painted it but have found some leaching from one colour to the other. I put this down to the tape not being f...

What type of sealing tape for older frames

A customer called in with an old water colour mounted on a wood backing and mounted in a gold ornate frame that had come apart, and asked if I could 'fix' it. I agreed to do so however when I cleaned up the failed backing tape I noticed a few considerations that I would appreciate advice from the 'g...

Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a framing outlet in East Anglia (preferably in Cambridgeshire) that has a CMC mountboard cutter?

Thanks,
