Re: water gilt schlagg leaf showing gilding lines
Another lovely frame Geoff. Reminds me of a 'Watts' frame, although I think I'm right in saying they often had a gilded wood grain finish on the flat piece?
Is it painted gesso on the flat piece on your frame?

Re: Simple closed corner "schlagg leaf" frame.
Thanks very much for all the hints and tips. I'm quite new to this form of frame finishing and have learnt the little I know from the web and some really quite old books! . We are now successfully spraying gesso and now feel inspired to start experimenting with different recipes for gesso and differ...

Re: Simple closed corner "schlagg leaf" frame.
Good looking frames Geoff and Richard :D I would imagine a lot of 'elbow grease' has gone in to the gesso/bole preparation before before the leaf was applied- are there any short cuts to the endless sanding? I have used button polish to distress schlagg leaf and found it gives a richer colour and do...

The OP is not unlike what I know as a Nicholson frame named after the Cornish artist Ben Nicholson, who often had his work framed like this. This one isn't glazed but we have made them that are

That's reassuring Simoonez, thank you!
I was interested in the Tru Cut as a second machine, it looked good in photo's, but wasn't quite brave enough to spend that sort of money buying blind

Re: Rustoleum chalk paints
Its very similar to Annie Sloans chalk paint with a smooth matt finish. Its a bit dearer than Annie Sloans ( NB Annie Sloans is sold in litre tins and Rustoleum in 750ml) although I did buy mine in an independent paint shop and I'm sure Homebase could well be cheaper

Apprenticeships
I'm looking to take on an apprentice picture framer and wondered if any forum members already did so. I know the FATG were working towards a relevant qualification and off the job training for apprentices but as I'm not a member I'm unsure how that's progressing? Any advice or information would be g...

Re: 'The Coleridge Way' Exhibition Churchgate Gallery Porloc
This collection or work will be hanging in a gallery, that had it been there 235 years ago, Coleridge would have undoubtedly looked in on when passing through Porlock.

Re: Economy getting better?
I would say at the moment the media is full of better news about the economy but it would seem, that at least in this neck of the woods, it hasn't yet had the desired effect on customer confidence Just heard on the radio that wages are rising quite quickly now, this could help to turn more money in ...
