Re: Prop-up aluminium frame
Thanks Steve -- Yes we do use those slip-on brackets like you mention but recently I was using Nielsons profile 269 and there was not enough rebate for the slip-on bracket to fit in the rebate. I messed about glueing bits of card to the backboard. But I have just this second realised what i could ha...

Prop-up aluminium frame
Apart from using the two part strut back hinges does any producer of aluminium frames do a neat gadget to make their frames prop?

Re: Popularity of Polcore
Are there any tips to working with Polcore in regards to underpinning. Do not underpin. Superglue only. If i was welding two pieces of metal together i would not also use a nut and bolt and some freshly chewed gum for extra strength. Try this - glue some waste polcore together with superglue and th...

Re: Joining narrow oak
I agree with jamesnkr - no pins necessary. I use polyurethane glue and am wondering what glue is used by the previous posters. For wood too narrow for Hoffmann I simply glue and hold by hand for 4 or 5 minutes (boring I know) then carefully let go and leave for an hour before doing the next corner. ...

Re: Sharpened Morso Blades
I have resumed using Mainline now for blade sharpening. I am fortunate in that I can drop my blades off and pick them up myself. I thought I would just mention why I stopped using the other (well known) company. I write on my blades package such as ID and date of removal. I had a set of blades retur...

Yes a flag visible on the sales index page would be handy.

Re: Morso Second Stop
I have been trying to fathom how they work. Presumably one bit must come away to let the long lengths of moulding get past it.

Re: Glued and underpinned?
SuperGlue only for polystyrene mouldings. When you break apart one of these joints they break beyond the penetration depth of the glue indicating that the material with glue penetration is stronger than that of the moulding material. It will of course always break near the corner due to the maximum ...

Re: Which mount cutter?
What sort of mountcutter manufacturer would make a machine just too short for a widely used mountcard size? That is like a builder fitting the kitchen sink 5 foot up above the floor! (or perhaps 18ins above). I also need a new mountcutter I unfortunately have a Keencut Laser (it is from a previous c...

Re: Changing Morso Blades
I change my blades exactly as Prospero describes and I agree with him on using bare hands for a better feel. Perhaps it's our Lincolnshire mentality!
The only thing i can add is to be very careful not to catch the sharp edges on anything.

Re: Fixing a 'Fillet'
For fillets I simply measure the frame size and knock off 0.5mm then make the fillet this length by using zero on the Mors0 moulding width scale . My wife assembles the pictures and she prefers to use a short piece of double sided tape but I cannot see the need. For measuring the frame accurately al...

Re: Simons moulding prices on spreadsheet
Wow - thanks to all for the great responses. I have downloaded the csv file from your post - thank you very much Jon. So an update is available. I have been on the Estlite site and cannot find a place to download a csv file. I downloaded bbestsetup.exe without thinking :Slap: -- it is no use to me a...

Simons moulding prices on spreadsheet
Does anyone have the Simons moulding prices on spreadsheet? I am considering using more of the D J Simons mouldings but I use my own pricing spreadsheet that looks up the prices of Wessex and Mainline mouldings from other spreadsheets. Simons have supplied me with the prices in a PDF file which I am...

Re: Hoffman dovetail routing
I use the Hoffmann for all of my wood mitres. I found that the underpinner that I got with the purchase of our business was not only totally useless for hardwoods but also for deep mouldings. Using the Hoffmann takes more time but gives a joint that I can trust. I have the bench top non-pneumatic MU...

Re: Kleencut Ultimat Gold 48" for sale
Hi Tony Have you still got the Keencut Ultimat Gold for sale? How old is it? I am currently using a very old Keencut which is useless for multi-aperture work. I am interested to know if when you cut your multi-apertures, you mark out in pencil first or whether with the Ultimat Gold it is easy to do ...
