showing cost price in BBEst?
Just wondering...
is there a quick way to see the materials cost for a job in BBEst without messing about with the markup options?
cheers

Re: re-using original window mount
I spoke to the customers and they took it well. As it seems our nearest restorer is 80 miles away, for now the plan is for me to leave the painting on its backing, place a hidden mount under the existing one and frame it with museum glass so at least they can put it on the wall and the light isn't g...

Re: re-using original window mount
that's what made me take a look! It's terribly sad to see though. I have to sum up the willpower to ring the customers and break the news now

Re: re-using original window mount
Thanks so much for all the wisdom. I've now taken it all apart and I'm in over my head: the mount is only attached with paper tape, but the painting itself has been pasted firmly to cardboard and would definitely need separating from it. The painting has suffered a lot, been stored without glass on ...

re-using original window mount
I've been asked to reframe a rather valuable old watercolour, simple enough job except that the artist signed and titled the window mount which the customer naturally wants to keep in the frame. Not something I've had to deal with before, and I could use some advice. Would it be sufficient to cut a ...

Re: Cleaning watercolour
Blu tack is great stuff for lifting dirt off - dab and lift rather than rub & roll. I would be wary of using bread in case of it leaving yeast deposits.

Re: Fixing Blind Slips
just wanted to say thanks for all the info in this thread. I was just about to ask about this very same thing (I want to frame a pastel without a mount, using a visible slip to space it from the glass). Did a search first and found myself here: very helpful

Re: scam?
I've had these with the exact same wording but they insert titles of paintings off my website, so they are asking for, like, 20 identical original paintings... last time I looked I wasn't running a chinese painting factory  so I ignore them The good news is it does mean your website is showing...

Re: Moulding ID please
thank you, here's hoping! I need to ask them for a hard copy of their catalogue as I've realised the online one on their website must be well out of date (it has a section for "New 2004 mouldings ) no wonder I couldn't find it there! cheers, Mary

Re: tips for gum taping back of frames?
To wet the tape, I use a 20mm thick rubber kitchen sponge (like the stuff that goes on those squeezy floor mop things) sat in a dish of water. cut the tape dry, pull the gummed side across the sponge with one hand, with the other I hold the back of my index finger on it to keep a light pressure down...

Re: Creating Youtube videos
A compact camera with video mode is perfectly adequate for youtube, and then you need some software for editing it, cutting the sequences together, adding titles, music or whatever you wish, and compressing the end result so it doesn't take all century to upload. The software I use is Ulead Videostu...

Hi Chris, I'm a newb as well :) I originate from Leicester so not far from you once upon a time Have you got some lengths of offcut or cheap moulding for practising with the underpinner? it takes a little bit of a knack and it could be expensive if your learning curve was on 'best stuff' I ha...
