Underpinner pressure pad

I have a second hand underpinner which is a Framers Corner one, likely well over 20 years old. I suspect it's not going to go the distance but for now I'd like to get it set up to do reasonable service while I save for a better one. Did you get her phone number? I've found that clients I speak to on the phone are a few thousand percent more likely to go through with a job than those I quote by email. Not because I'm good at selling (I'm rubbish) but generally people are lazy about responding to emails or even reading them prope...

Linen slips

I hope this isn't a daft question but... Bearing in mind they'd be in direct contact with the artwork if there's no window mount, I was wondering how safe linen covered slips are to use from a conservation point of view? or any slips/ fillets for that matter

As I understand it, oil paintings take about 12 months to 'cure' during which time they should be neither varnished nor glazed so that solvents can evaporate, or else the paint can dry unevenly and crack or craze. Some artists (self included) apply a retouching varnish earlier than this which allows...
