Re: weight of glass/acrylic
3mm glass will be half as heavy again as 2mm glass (there being half as much glass again!), so around 7.5Kg. Acrylic would be lighter, by as much as half, but is a bit more flexible although over only a square meter wouldn't be that noticeable.

Looks pretty close to Arqadia 130 490 246, which it appears is now discontinued! I've just looked and I only have some scraps left.

Re: Morso not cutting cleanly
We have reduced the number of 'chippy' mouldings down to virtually nothing over the years. For those that we do still use, and to avoid getting digger's 'ripped' corners, we often use a sacrificial fence made from 2mm MDF. We cut strips and lay one against the morso fence, so that the tip of the mor...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?
We had a busy gallery with a rolling schedule of exhibitions and booked up a year in advance. But like you, 90% our revenue came from the framing which was squashed onto two small benches at the back of the gallery space. Why allocate 90% of our space to 10% of our revenue? We decided to close the g...

Re: Organising framing
We have separate racking for rolled canvases and objects, and all other flat work goes into visifiles and are stored in two plan chests. Most importantly, because of the number of orders we have to manage, every single job has its own job sheet, and every job sheet follows a set route through our wo...

Bank want £10k deposit to open account!
I've already got two merchant services accounts with Barclaycard, one for each of my businesses, and have plenty of good trading history on these and my business current accounts. Having come up with an idea for a new web based service which has now been built, I've applied for a third account to al...

Re: Glass Disposal
We use Glass & Mirror. £50 a year and £2 a box might not be the cheapest way of getting rid of glass waste, but with the box sitting underneath my Excalibur its quick, easy, and emptied with each glass delivery. Plus, of course, fully legal should anyone come knocking.

Thanks David, but I think it will need to be presented like it would with a strutback.

How do you stand a frame with no backing?
I've been asked to make a frame with glass front and back so that you can see right through. No problem, except the customer wants the frame to stand on a table rather than hang. All of the stands/struts that I can find in the Lion catalogue are fixed to the backing board, of which there isn't one! ...

Re: Looking for a supplier in the UK
Isn't this just a deep frame with 2 sheets of glass and a fillet in behind it? I'm surprised there hasn't been more response to this as I'm sure most framers on here could manage this - I certainly could if you can't find anyone more local to you.

Re: So what's on your bench,
I have coming in a small original pen drawing of Wind in the Willows AND Winnie the Pooh in the same picture. It will appear on the Antiques Roadshow in a couple of weeks time where it will be valued at £15,000. Needless to say, I don't have it here - I saw it last week when I measured it up and it ...

I framed one of the limited edition prints of 'Divers' by Anthea Hamilton (the £570 print, not the £6.99 poster!). It came in a big card folder and included cotton gloves for handling!

Re: Computerised Mount cutter
I often print onto mountboard with my little Epson 3800. Although limited to 420mm wide, the passthrough makes it easy. I've found textured board to bleed a little, so I usually stick to smooth board. Although spectacular, It is a bit of a hassle to produce this way. You have to cut the outer first,...

20x16 price guide query
I have just started using BBEst and trying to get my prices configured consistently. I have set up (for example) a piece of 20x16 speciality glass at £31.00 + £3.00 with wasteage at 30%. In theory, if I then price a 20x16 frame, the glass element should be (£31.00+£3.00)+30% = £44.20. However, BBEst...

Re: Travel Posters on Canvas
My paper conservationist bonds old posters onto a cotton base to preserve. She has recently taken on work from a local museum to conserve an entire collection of antique posters. Not sure if reversible, but not sure why you would want to!
