Your lucky to have customers still taking an interest in framed images on the wall!! I thought they were a dying breed Actually have never been placed in this situation - had I not read these posts don't know if I would have comtemplated letting any framed unit go out on consignment. Thanks for the ...

Ormond Watermark matts are probably a little harder on blades, but not to the extent you highlight You make mention of Alphamats - why are they so much better than the crescent rag series. One can not change matt-board supplier at the drop of a hat if you maintain a reasonable supply of boards in st...

Mountboard display units

We have our matt-board corner samples grouped by colour on an "A" shaped product holder supplied by one of the manufacturers - we don't attempt to keep them in any order other than the selected colour code. We use a mixture of Crescent, the old Tru Vue and Watermark matt-boards with the Cr...

Stand backs

I notice under the MDF discussion, the question of standbacks appeared briefly The metal unit Kev displayed is similar to one available through Antons in Australia, but instead of its base being attached to the backing board, it uses a clip that has to be inserted into the base of the frame unit and...

Busy January

While all you Poms try and outdo yourselves with record months, my January consisted of 3 weeks holidays, back to work for a couple of days, then a public holiday (Australia Day) and then a few days work till the end of the month!!! So no records here!

Display/hanging systems

John - you just spoilt the allusion - mind you, the real image is still pretty impressive!! Robo - you may not want droppers or holes in your walls, but be assured we are finding there is a steady stream of enquiries for hanging systems. Apart from art galleries, quite a few households are seeking t...

Trade price prints

Good-day Ken My advice to you would be not to buy prints in for resale - certainly speak to suppliers, but get yourself a number of good catalogues from suppliers who will sell you individual prints as you need them Good current catalogues will give any potential acquirer of prints a far wider range...

Display/hanging systems

Through all the waffle of late I return to John's notes about having experimented with three different hanging systems and found them wanting I see from the photo image of your gallery there are a number of curved walls, and these are certainly not suitable for straight lengths of 2 or 3 metre track...

Display/hanging systems

I wanted to treat this as a separate comment, so hence a second go at this subject John (Merlin Framers) - thanks for posting the images of your shop - the idea of re-utilising part of the wall space for ready made frames catches my eye as does the comment that you are moving such ready made frames ...

Display/hanging systems

In a gallery environment, there are two systems I am familar with in Brisbane, so not sure who markets them in UK: Gallery System - uses an aluminium track (available in 2 or 3 metre lengths) that is attached to the wall near the ceiling and from which hang either plastic tape or steel droppers. Hoo...

Applying fabric to Fome-cor to create a matt-board

Have a situation where a customer has requested a fabric matt-board that has a larger depth than conventional matt-boards We have been able to achieve a result by using and cutting a fabric to size and then adhering it to 5mm Fome-cor to create the desired result. However, we have encountered two di...

long narrow frame

Flimsy frame? Long narrow frame! Can't you increase size of moulding profile to give some added strength. Alternatively, staple a couple of strips of tape from top to bottom of frame to give the centre of the unit some support Definitely hang from two supports - we usually advise customers to come i...

I guess "not as good as timber" has been covered in subsequent posts - to me it was an observation early on when a large synthetic framed unit can back in an unsatisfactory state - we replaced it, got rid of the synthetics and retained a good customer! I'm aware the synthetic quality has i...

We only have 4 synthetic mouldings on our wall at present - I guess on the basis that it is not as good as timber I find it interesting that 2 framers at opposite ends of the world have found a place to use synthetics - question - do you place any limit on the size a frame can be when a customer sel...

Web sites

For some time I have been watching for ideas on the further development of the website we have developed www.framecraft.com.au - it has been developed to date as a promotional tool rather than an active selling site We find it great for referring people to view methods of framing or how things will ...

Hanging System

We have access to a hanging system marketed by a local supplier under the name Arti Tec Hanging System - I understand it is manufactured in the UK - does anyone know by whom and if so, do they have a website which might give hanging instructions, particularly from the ceiling as opposed to the wall?...
