Re: Photo printing

We started as a photo lab then moved into framing as a natural extension to our business. Copying photos and slides is a significant part of our revenue stream, especially the slides, its not uncommon for someone to walk in with a 1000 plus slides to scan. It takes time, but can be highly profitable...

Re: Backing Board

My apologies for being inprecise in the original post, from my perspective pictures are photographs, so I can see where the confusion arises. However in my defence, a couple of posts later, I did clarify we were talking about photographs. I promise not to do it again and shall remove myself to the n...

Re: Backing Board

So that's not a copy and not produced by a photographic process..... I repeat my question. What's the point in hanging a photographic copy; did you seriously recommend that? If somebody came in with the Mona Lisa would you recommend the same process? I must not be making myself clear, the original ...

No I have a professional photo lab, the pictures are scanned and the digital files are restored then printed on photographic paper.

Re: Backing Board

The lady came back today, with the same frame and seven more of the same vintage; having decided to get them all copied, with the originals to be put into archival envelopes for storage and the copies to be framed. My recommendation must of sunk in.

Backing Board

A customer dropped in an old frame to have the picture (circa 1940's) copied. On removing the backing paper I found this; a little acidic I think.

Re: removable medal attachments

I use these, they should be available in the UK. I generally use 3 or 4 per medal group and tend to screw them in place rather than trust the adhesive backing.

Re: Compressors and Compressed Air Tools

Doesn't your airline occasionally blow moisture out as well? Or do have a dryer in the line? I don't believe I have a dryer in the airline, it's a sil-air. I have never notice any moisture in the airline, but out of habit I generally point it away from the work area for the first blow just incase t...

Re: Compressors and Compressed Air Tools

My compressor is used for the usual suspects, the CMC and underpinner. However I also have it attached to an air gun which gets a good work out on my finishing table, a quick blast to the matted print and glass before I put it all together usually keeps the dust and other bits of fluff away.

Re: Mount board chevron display

This was a design another framer sent to me when I had a similar problem, I have since built my own to a similar design using chevrons and core flute, so far it has worked well.

Re: COLD WEATHER

As mentioned in a previous post, its the opposite in Australia, 10am and it's already in the high 30's upstairs in our workshop. They are warning of heat wave conditions this weekend especially further north, and there is a total fire ban in force in the Hunter so no weekend BBQ's. The wife only has...

Re: To potter around

Pottering shifted to playing around with my new CMC. I have been wanting to put some more samples up on the wall and had a signed CD hanging around so thought why not. I still need to stack another moulding on top and do the glass, but I quite happy with it so far; the LED's add that final finish.

To potter around

It's a wet Saturday and the wife and daughter are off to ballet lessons then onto a birthday party, allowing me the chance to head into work and potter about. Without the normal distractions of customers and staff I can put on some music and simply potter, it's very relaxing I find. I can understand...

Re: What's the best for heating?

And until/unless someone comes up with a better solution for heating a large area reasonably economically Move to Australia, in Summer I try to do my framing early in the morning or later in the afternoon because it gets near impossible to work in our upstairs area, even with the air con going at t...

Re: Canvas.

I have tried quite a few products on my Canon wide format printer and have found the Epson Premium Canvas Satin to be the best. A bit more expensive than many of the others, but looks a lot better and certainly stretches easier than many of the cheaper options.

Mounting Arrow Heads

I have been asked to frame 4 Roman arrow heads, as seen in the picture. I will be box mounting them with the mat raised above the board the arrow heads are attached to. I want the method to be unobtrusive as possible, I have found cotton thread is too noticeable and the specialty perspex mounts I ca...

Alexia Sinclair Print

Some time back I asked forum members to suggest framing options for this print, it was finished some time ago and still hangs in the shop whilst the customer is doing renovations. She went with a ornate black moulding and mottle blue matt. Happy with the outcome, although a nervous dealing with my f...
